Driving Empty Driving

Post by angelslice 27th October 2009, 1:05 pm

Hi girls, how long was it before you drove?

I popped round the shops last night in the car but it was really uncomfortable, I can reach my arms up over my head ok but things like manoevering and using the gears and handbrake were quite painful and this was only 2 mins from my house.

I'm due back at work tomorrow and I'll be 7 days post op. Someone has offered to cover my shift and I'm unsure whether to take her up on it or not. What are your thoughts?

Thanks xxx

Hi,

I waited until 9 days post op to drive, but tbh I didn't need to drive anywhere before then!

I was fine driving but putting the car into reverse and parking and putting the steering wheel onto full lock was a bit painful, but not too bad. It was bearable.

it was 11 days until i drove and it was fine exept for putting in 5th gear. it still is a bit awkward but is getting better. it's just the seatbelt that annoys me and all the bumps in the road which i notice alot more now i've got boobs =)

Eeeew, I remember the dreaded 5th gear - made my muscles do strange things, made me feel sick!

Funny though, I don't remember when the feeling went away - it just sort of faded away. Must have been when I was driving about two weeks. xx

My only advice would be to drive like a learner driver, feed the wheel. Reverse gear I had to use 2 hands.

I think I drove at about 11 days, I tried earlier but it was too painful and was a danger to myself and others on the road LOL!!!! Feeding the steering wheel with two hands, attempting to reverse and going about 30mph lol felt like I was back in my driving lessons. They recommend waiting to drive till your 2 weeks post op, to give your body the rest it needs to recover from the trauma its been through hun. Just try not to over do it xxx
