Hey girls, what is everyones experience with driving post op?

I'm imagining around 6 weeks before I will give it a go, although I really have no clue as to how I will feel I guess I will wait and see but I am curious.

How long before you were able to drive again? How was it?

Hi Hun, I drove after 3 weeks, it was sore to start with. my ps said 2 weeks to me, but I waited. Best ask your ps as well, cause they all have different opinions. X

I was advised 1 week, but I wasn't ready until 3 weeks.  It was a bit sore for a few gear changes at that time.  X

Legally you can't drive for up to 48hrs after the GA, or if you are unable to perform an emergency stop. Your surgeon may give you their guideline, but other than that, it's just when you feel comfortable to do so. I didn't have to drive until 3wks, so that's when I tried it. I was back to 'learner' habits, going carefully, feeding the wheel, plus 2nd and 5th were difficult, but it got me to work and back.

Hi for me it was 3 weeks and taking it easy. Not driving all day. Your body will tell you when it's ready. Everyone is different. Xxx

I drove at 8 days 10 miles, then 150 miles day 10... I was absolutely fine and didn't feel a thing Shocked
I expected to wait 2 weeks but I gave it a go and it was fine. So I drove home to see my mum on Mother's Day! X

Listen to your body and only do what it allows :) xx

I tried yesterday (day7) and I couldn't turn the wheel, maybe next week I will give it another go. I really miss not being able to drive, gonna cost me a fortune getting to work and back in taxis too :-(

The only thing I found was that I couldn't cross one hand over the other on the steering wheel, had to feed the steering wheel - back to learning to drive lol. Didn't hurt just felt weird!
Also been told hand breaks are hard work!! - but I have an auto hand break so didn't have that problem x
