Oral contraceptive?

Oral contraceptive?
Was anyone on the pill asked to stop before their op (due to risk of dvt)?
I've decided to go back on pill after getting my coil removed. I took my first one today but I'm not sure if I should take anymore before op?
My mum died last year of a blood clot after an ankle op (she was in poor physical health anyway).
A bit of research seems to show different PS's have different opinions on this. The main point seems to be that people are generally up and about soon after a BA and not immobilised like other ops.
Any advice appreciated xx

Re: Oral contraceptive?
Hey :)
I was advised to stop taking my pill before my op, I actually stopped taking it about a month ago as I wasn't happy with it anyway! I've since had an appt with a nurse and have a new pill ready to start after my op although not sure how long after you can start them again!
So yes I would say to be on the safe side stop taking your pill, not long to go now until your op anyway!
Sorry to hear about your mum x

Re: Oral contraceptive?
Thanks hun. Emailed clinic today but never got a reply so decided just to leave the pill for now and ask ps when I can start it.

Re: Oral contraceptive?
I wasn't asked to stop mine, just took it as normal Hun. But maybe with your family history you should mention it and let them decide. The faster your up and about after the op the better really as far as DVT is concerned, and during recover short regular walks will help all round. xxx

Re: Oral contraceptive?
They got back to me and he said I'm fine to take it.
I've stopped all of my vitamins and the clinic request no arnica to be taken beforehand either!
Glad I'm so disorganised I didn't start it!
