Contraceptive pill & BA?
Does anyone know if I can carry on taking my pill before & after surgery? I am going to ask my surgeon tomorrow, I just wanted to know what you girls thought about it?
As my surgeon told me i'd be okay smoking still but i've just given up today, after reading on here that others were doing the same.
Also, I am getting very scared about the anesthetic. I have a massive phobia of needles, so bad that i've never been able to have a blood test, as whenever they try my veins have "hidden away" do you think this would be a problem? Could I ask for gas? I have had a drip in me before if this helps? But when I had it in me I was being rushed off in an ambulance so I didn't really know what was going on!
Sorry for all the questions!

Re: Contraceptive pill & BA?
Thanks Jen!! Another worry gone now! haha :) i'll still call him to check my pill is okay just incase - I hate not taking my pill, I get reallly bad periods without it.
Does anyone know about the anesthetic? It's reaally hard to explain what I mean, my phobia is pretty severe, I can't have an injection at the dentist, I just have to deal with the pain, I think it's because the injection is in my mouth and I can see it coming, I can't have a blood test (tried several times) But I can have a injection in my arm as long as I look away, but even then I faint afterwards. Does the anesthetic needle have to go directly to a vein that could hide away? Lol sorry this sounds soo silly! xx

I had to stop mine 2 weeks before, it's something to do with clots. But I think it's just being extra safe.

I was allowed to carry on taking the pill, but I stopped as I was worried about DVT. It will be your surgeon who decides whether you need to stop or not. I didn't quit smoking, but really wish I could. As for the needle it's not quite like a blood test, it will be like the drip in your hand and sometimes if you ask I believe they will give you something to calm you beforehand so that you don't really care what they are doing. But literally it goes in your hand and then you are out of it, it's so quick you wont even know it's done.
Re: Contraceptive pill & BA?
I never even thought of going off the pill! I guess I better ask... my bf is going to be pretty gutted if I have to go off 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after!!

I'd stop taking it hun, it doubles the risk of blood clot apparently and I was told this before I had surgery last year (not BA).

Re: Contraceptive pill & BA?
Just double check hun as I was told certain pills affect blood clotting ewtc!
I'm on the injection and didn't stop it (would be very hard and have no choice as its in ya system for 12 weeks)
As for the anesthetic-
They can give u a sedative before hand, I had the canula put in my elbow cerease and then I was off to cuckoo land (I don't really remember that as everything happened so quickly) my hosp wasnt like nhs hospitals so I doubt they had that sleepy gas but I never asked!
I was worried bout not waking up, waking up mid op etc and bugged my friend for weeks before asking questions as I smoke and was worried etc... So if u have any questions feel free to ask me as I'm a bit of a pro on that now hahahaha xxxx

Re: Contraceptive pill & BA?
Honestly hun you'll be fine- and with any hope it'll all happen really quickly like my day and u won't have a chance to think about anything. (I arrived at 7am and when I was going to sleep at 8 the surgeon came and got me- was all prepared to nap all morning)
Feel free to ask me any questions you have. I forgot to mention my friend is an aneathetists assistant which is why I asked her every question under the moon and stars! Hahahaha xxxx
