Staying overnight in hotel
hey, I'm having my BA on 20/03/15 at the London welbeck hospital and I'm the last surgery which is 4pm, not really sure how it all works and how long I have to stay but I'm imagining a good few hours making it very late evening before I get the all clear to leave.
I'm not staying overnight but have opted to stay at a local hotel in London about 1/2 mile from the clinic. My OH will be with me the whole time and staying overnight with me.
I'm not really sure how much it would have cost to stay overnight at the hospital but I'm imagining £££s however glad I've booked a hotel local just incase I need to go back to the hospital in the 1st 24 hours and peace of mind I'm only around the corner as opposed to 14 miles away.
I think I'm doing the right thing rather then coming out of surgery and getting a lift home.
Anyone else who stayed overnight at a hotel as opposed to hospital!?

No, I felt safer in the hospital. You're so out of it you don't want to move out of bed, especially having a GA very late in the day. Plus you get all your obs done on a regular basis to check you're doing OK. But as you said you're not too far away x

Re: Staying overnight in hotel
To be honest, around the corner in a hotel room versus 14 miles away and my own bed would be worth the comfort of home and the off-chance I may need to travel 14 miles. But personally I would stay in hospital and have the comfort of a reclining bed, drugs on tap and a team of nurses to look after you! Everyone's different but I was so grateful to stay in. In fact I stayed in 2 nights and it was like a holiday I got so much rest!!

Re: Staying overnight in hotel
I'm not sure my price just included it and I never enquired otherwise. Hopefully someone can help but I'm sure they can let you know over the phone. But if you're well enough to be discharged, you may prefer to go home where you'll probsbly be able to get more comfy with multiple pillows and a sofa! If your a daycase and you're not well enough to be discharged I'm pretty sure they keep you in with no charge but don't quote me!

Hey Hun, I used the welbeck however I was early op, however did end up stayin for quite a few hours later , they won't kick you out till you've eaten, feel well enough to stand and have a wee!
I'm not sure how much the hospital stay was I know it was a few hundred however you have nurses on call and meds on demand.
Which hotel is it Hun?
X

Re: Staying overnight in hotel
I'm meant to be a day case but was fearing travelling by car late at night.... 14 miles home and feeling sick etc so best to stay local and do the travelling the day after when I'm feeling abit better

Re: Staying overnight in hotel
Your best bet will just be to call the hospital.
I'm with Mammamia though; 14 miles isn't that far at all to travel home (I had to travel 2.5 hrs), and you won't have the bother of being up and out by 10am when all you want to do is sleep or stay in bed. I'd perhaps try and cancel the hotel, and if the hospital is excessively expensive, really consider just going directly home. You'll have lots of meds in your system to pretty much numb any discomfort anyway. x

Re: Staying overnight in hotel
Apologies more like 18 miles but driving through London on a Friday night will most prob be a nightmare and over 1 hour to drive x I don't have to check out until midday also. I'm playing devils advocate as theirs pros and cons of both options

Stick with your booking then if it's non-flexible and then at least you have options!
