Driving???
Hi ladies, I have a dilemma! My 1week post op appointment with the nurse is on Friday. Hubby can't take me as he is snowed under at work. My 2 besties can't takes me either as both have things on that they can't get out of. My mum is away on business and my mother in law can't take me as she has her shop to run. I am stuck, do I risk it and drive myself or do I change the appointment to next week at some point?
My surgeon said no driving for a week so it will be a week so should be fine?!? But not sure I want to drive that far incase anything happens and I panic and then can't drive home.
Soooo confused as to what to do. X

Re: Driving???
Agree with Tink, give them a bell to be sure. Do you drive manual or auto? Because theres always the chance that you wont be physically ready yet either. How far is the clinic?

Re: Driving???
Just make sure you check with your insurance that you will be covered to drive some insurance companies won't cover for a period no matter what the op is, which reminds me to ring mine :-) xx

Re: Driving???
I wouldn't risk it this early. Get a taxi? not sure how far away it is, but can't really put a price on your healing x

Re: Driving???
I started driving at 12 days with an automatic and every speed bump pot hole hurt. Not to mention any duel carriage ways or big turns and yes my car has power steering.
I wouldn't have been able to drive at 7 days. Well that's my opinion anyway x

Re: Driving???
Thank you for your replies. The clinic is 1 1/2 hours away so now way of getting a taxi, and it's in the middle of no where to get a train. I drive a manual and would have to drive on the motorways, and to be honest I don't feel that I would be ready to drive that far.
I think I will call the clinic and rearrange the appointment for next week.

Re: Driving???
I am feeling not too bad, Have not had any pain killers today as the side pains and arms pains have gone. Incisions are itching a little but nothing major and generally feeling ok. But don't think I could manage such a long drive though. Xx

Re: Driving???
I started driving at 10 days and felt absolutely fine, I think everyone feels different. Maybe take the car for a 5min drive down the road and see how you feel first? If your surgeon said a week them surely that won't effect your aftercare? I'm not sure really! Hope you sort it out Hun xx

Re: Driving???
Just seen how far away it is, i agree the best thing would be to re arrange Hun, I think you'd be fine to drive half an hour but after that long you're body might get tired (especially after the gas it's still recovering from) and you could get sore and wouldn't want to feel stuck xx

Re: Driving???
I have had a look at the trains, and it will take over 3 hours each way and 3 changes too, seems like a real pain in the bum.
I am going to call the clinic and see if they can change my appointment. Xx

Re: Driving???
I personally would change my appointment if i was you, honey. It sounds like you feel you're not physically ready to drive yet and if it's longer than a 10-15 minute drive away then it may be risky. You don't want to strain your chest muscles at all or do anything to jeopardise and prevent your healing. You have to remember that you're still so fragile and early on in your recovery so i think you should ask for a later appointment. This way you'll have peace of mind that you're doing everything you can to take care of your boobs and you'll also have support from your husband or friends.
I hope you're okay, honey!! I hope you get it sorted! Take care xxxx

Re: Driving???
Thank you all for your replies. I don't feel ready to drive that far and possibly damage my new babies. I have phoned and rearranged the appointment for Monday morning and my best friend is going to drive me there.
Tink, it must have been such a nightmare having to travel loads for your appointments.
All set for Monday now. Xx

Oh I am glad! That's great news, honey, and you've definitely made a wise decision there! :) Monday's still really close as well so it's not like you've had to postpone your appointment for ages :)
Your boobs will thank you for the extra time to fully heal uninterrupted..
Good luck with your appointment on Monday! I hope it all goes perfectly xxxx

Re: Driving???
Thanks sweetie, I have changed the clinic too as they could only give me a really early apt in Bromsgrove for Monday but the other clinic is still just as far to travel so wouldn't have felt comfortable driving there either.
Monday is not long to wait, and I can't wait to actually see my incisions. Xx

Aww I'm sure they'll look fab! Let's hope they've completely healed.. don't worry if they haven't though as my left incision took 4 weeks to fully close up xxx

I cant wait to see them, I have no bruising at all which is nice. I am not worried if they have not healed properly yet, they will when there ready to. Going to take a photo of them when the nurse takes my dressings off. Xx

Ohh that's amazing! I had no bruising either which I was very surprised about - It's nice to know my surgeon didn't beat me up a lot haha. Ah I'd love to see how your incisions are doing :) You'll have to let us know when you put the pics on xxx
