I was told by nurse no food supplements, medications (incl ibuprofen, paracetamol) as it may affect the recovery from general anaesthetic xx

Re: February Buddies
I've just messaged them and they said it's fine.
Why can't they all have the same rules!
I've got 20 days to go and getting nervous

Re: February Buddies
Try not to worry Sahara... I have 16 days to go and haven't been told anything either...
I've just had a look online, asked TOO many questions on here and use common sense.
You can grill them at your pre op :D xx

Re: February Buddies
I guess all hospitals/surgeons are different. There is no proof that vitamins can affect the GA but there are supplements that could- such as St.Johns wort. So maybe as preventative measure they have said to stop it all in case people miss out on things. This obviously doesn't apply to prescribed drugs by your doctor- unless specifically advised.
There is actual proof that smoking and drinking alcohol heavily 2 weeks before the op increases risks to surgical complications related to wound healing.
I'm using common sense- will make sure I won't drink a drop 48 hrs before the op but I'm going out to dinner 1 week before the op and I'm going to have a glass or two of wine there. Not going over board but I'm light weight anyway :) xx

Now just realised I've said this already.
I seem to be on this forum all the time.
My life seems to revolve around boobs!
Even when I'm watching TV I can't stop looking at them, it's driving my partner mad lol x

Re: February Buddies
Hi Feb-ladies.
I was given a list of things NOT to have pre-op, I imagine you will get some guidance on this if you haven't already.
If anyone wants to know what these were, I am happy to copy and paste into here for you if it may help, but take advise from your individual surgeons.
Exciting month ahead!
xx

Re: February Buddies
Hi Krizzooo- it would be great to have a copy here and see if there is any difference to what I've been given.
Sahara- I have turned boob mad too! Mind I have been quite busy at work last week so I haven't been here too much as I would like to have been…
You are having the op on my birthday :)
I have seen my surgeon again today. Will update in my diary xx

Re: February Buddies
This is copied and is MY surgeons advice, you should seek your own advice: (felt I should say that )
"There is risk of HRT & the oral contraceptive pill prior to surgery & If applicable may need to be stopped. Aspirin & non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen (nurofen) and diclofenac (volterol) should be stopped before the date of surgery.
It is important (because of bleeding difficulties) that if you are taking Warfarin or other anticoagulant medicine that you have informed your PS.
Prior to surgery (4-6weeks) you should stop taking any herbal medicines you have been taking, including Arnica, Gingko , Ginseng, etc.
This is because of the possible anticoagulant effect these preparations can have, combined with lack of information about their safety when used with "conventional" drugs including anaesthetics ...
Please make sure you bring any medicines you are taking in their packaging to the ward.

Re: February Buddies
That's pretty standard I would say :)
Mine also added no alcohol and garlic for 48 hrs and no drugs unless prescribed and discussed with GP & surgeon

Re: February Buddies
Yes I thought mine was standard.... not heard the Garlic bit...... Alcohol , yes ... that's understandable.
Some things I think are common sense.
"2 weeks" kdeee...................Yippee.
Enjoy the build up, feels like ages ago now that I was getting ready.

Re: February Buddies
I would love to be in your position now- all done and looking at the healing process :) I'm just getting impatient now. I wanted this for so long and can't believe it's actually happening. I'm really happy that I have had 4 month journey from my very first consultation with the surgeon to the actual op. It has given me the time that I have needed to get organised and mentally prepare myself (I'm quite a control freak!). I'm having my BA on Sunday and I'm back at work 10 days after it. I'm having overs so I hope I will be ok...xx

Re: February Buddies
I am sure you will be just fine.
I am fed up wearing this sports bra right now. And sleeping semi- propped up is a bit annoying, all I wanna do is curl up on my side. I probably could now, just feels worrying Haha!
HAHA I AM A CONTROL FREAK! I found it soooo hard to not help with my boys and housework the first week. I left notes on the fridge for hubby and mum....I chopped veg and prepared food before hand for them....
I hate not being able to do things for myself or know EXACTLY what's gonna happen.....
Like healing ... I know how I WANT things to go but have no control!! aaaaaaaaaggggh, just have to hope things are ok, so far ...so good.
xx

Re: February Buddies
We sound so similar :)
I'm sure you are healing perfectly and being more cautious side to begin with will benefit in the long run too. I can't believe how quickly time has gone since your op already. Keep thinking of those new amazing bras that you can wear so so soon xx
