Post by jolalaharvey 8th September 2013, 5:32 pm

hey ladies

its 46 days until my BA and counting lol

im having 300 overs and wondering about a few things

1.when is the soonest anyone has driven?

im having my BA on Friday and the husband will back at work on the Monday, i have 8 yrs old boys (twins) who are great and are very self sufficient but, they will have no idea what im having done, so just going 2 say i have bad back or something, havnt decided the rest yet. The thing is its half term that week so i dont have 2 worry about the school run but also i cant get my head around staying in with them either, were a really active family...so do u think i could drive day 5 to the cinema or something?

The thought of not being able to cuddle them, breaks my heart, how soon before ill be comfortable to squeeze them or them lie on me? there such cuddie boys

2. p/o bras - this the macom one the best? and zip front?, i know it sounds terrible but ive always suffered sweats at night so ganna have 2 change mine every day, can that be done?

i have my pre op on the 17th so i can go through everything with them but its not the same as having u girls 2 chat 2.

also not telling a sole but hoping my recovery is ok, back 2 work on day 10.

thanks girls

Hi hun x I had overs and drove just before my 2 week mark. I felt comfortable to drive but can feel it when I change gear.  I have 2 children 11 and 7 and have told them both so they were aware that they couldn't cuddle me tightly. My 7 year old boy just grabs my arms and cuddles it tightly! For the last few days I've been able to cuddle them properly and they were over the moon!  It just feels a bit strange hugging someone with 2 mounds in the way! I bought a macom before my ba but was given a support bra by the hospital and that's the one I wear most of the time especially at night.  I do swap to the macom occasionally if I'm going out and wanting to wear a vest top as it has thinner straps. ( support bra practically covers top half of back!) Hope this has helped hun, if you have any other questions please ask x

Generally around a week for most, but not everyone heals at the same rate, as you read from Mistys response, it took her two weeks. Its best not to set yourself targets hun and just take your recovery a day at a time and drive when YOU feel ready... How long that will be? That depends on your own healing lovely.

The thought of not being able to cuddle them, breaks my heart, how soon ill be comfortable to squeeze them
You'll be able to 'gently' squeeze your boys from day one hun. Pop a pillow between yourself and the boys and have a good cuddle. 8 year old boys can be quite rough though at that age and jump on you for cuddles so you'll need to explain to them that you have a bad back and and that they have to be gentle with mummy for a while. They're old enough to understand that. As long as they're aware, so that they don't worry and know the boundaries they'll be fine hun. No need to stop cuddles at all.

or let them lie on me? There such cuddle boys.
When you say 'lie on you' I'm presuming, put their head in your lap? Not vertically laying upon you and your chest area?!

They'll be able to lie on you from day one. Again, the pillow in front of you helps and you can still have all the contact you need with your boys.

The thing is its half term that week so i dont have 2 worry about the school run but also i cant get my head around staying in with them either, were a really active family...so do u think i could drive day 5 to the cinema or something?
You're not going to be up to much for the first week hun. So I wouldn't make any plans that need to set in stone. For the first 3 days you're going to sleeping ALOT whilst the GA runs through your system. Generally then day 3 is the day most of your swelling kicks in and the anaesthetic given at hospital has run through, so this is generally the day you will experience the most discomfort, after that it does start to get better, but you won't be up to anything lengthy at all, like long walks for example, because your body will need to recover from the major surgery you will have just had.

2. p/o bras - this the macom one the best? and zip front?, i know it sounds terrible but ive always suffered sweats at night so ganna have 2 change mine every day, can that be done?
Of course it can hun. You'll just need to be very careful not to disturb the dressings when changing your bras for first week whilst the wounds are doing most of their healing.

I drove on day 7 post op, just a very short journey and it was still a bit uncomfortable, im not in any hurry to try again!
I cuddled my kids, age 3&4 from day1, as cookie suggested put a pillow between yourself and the kids.  I told them I had a sore tummy so they knew not to squeeze too tight and have also told them I have sore arms and thats why I cant lift them. x

Hello!! I think the questions you asked have been answered well! I'm in my Macom and it's really comfy and was easy to put on... I think it's worth it because we will get a log of wear from it:) xx
