Does depression stop ladies having op?!
Hey, one of my friends suffers from depression and wonders if this will stop her being allowed op?! I honestly don't know answers...can't remember if they asked it pre-op. Cant think it would. Said I'd ask on here as you ladies may know. Xxx

I'm not sure if it would stop everyone with depression outright from having the op? I don't think its as simple as that, I do remember it was on my consultation card and I think the reason is to do with medication being taken and also if the person thinks getting cosmetic surgery will "cure" their depression. Its a complicated one hun, best thing would be to just ringup and ask the clinic maybe?xx

I think people with current depression can't but if they've been given Ll clear by doc they can? The clinic will contact gp who will say yes or no I think x

I'm not sure to what level doctors consider it to being an obstruction to surgery, my gp was contacted by both of my surgeons after consultation and neither raised concerns, and my gp last advised me in Sept to start some meds which I decided against. However, you might like to warn her my BA has really triggered my depression, ive had 2 weeks of hell emotionally so far x

Sending you a BIG HUG! !!! . Having suffered from depression over the years I know how awfull you can feel ,I stopped my meds before my op ( have tried this on a number of occasions when feeling good) at about the same time as you post op I thought I was about to have a break down, feeling so low agitated and tearfull , the pain post op lack of sleep etc didn't help! Have now come to the conclusion that for me my low dose antidepressant is something I possibly will need to be on long term perhaps for ever, there's no shame in taking these , it's an illness and like any illness if a medication treats your symptoms you take it.Speak to your Dr ,mine has been fantastic, you may just need something short term to get you through the other side. They will contact the persons Dr and they will need a note from the Dr to say they can have the op.
