Woohoo, 'depression issue' sorted!
Hi all,
Finally got my depression issue sorted after a few days of complete and utter panic!
Basically for those that don't know, I have a history of depression and due to this the cosmetic company required a letter from my GP stating that it was not due to body dysmorphia before the op could go ahead.
I did declare this to the company from day 1 (which was in March) and not once did they tell me it was an issue or would require a GP statement. I only found out this Tuesday at my pre op appointment and since then I have been frantically contacting my old GP, new GP and counsellor to get as much proof as poss to the company so they will go ahead with my op.
I was worried because even though my depression happened a few years ago, a few weeks ago I had been to the doctors having a bit of a depressive episode a hell of a lot was getting on top of me and I find counselling useful so I asked to be referred again.
I feel like I sound like a very weak and pathetic person now !!
Anyway, first of all I thought my GP (I am fairly new to the practice) refused to do the letter and I panicked but I have just seen him and he was very nice (surprisingly as last time he was very patronising) and said he has no problem in doing the letter and he will get the secretary to fax it through this afternoon so hopefully fingers crossed all will go ahead.
Just to cover all areas, I contacted my counsellor who provided me with email statement stating my depression was not due to body dysmorphia which I have faxed to the company.
Just wanted to also warn those that are having a BA that suffer from depression that this may also be the case for yourselves just to cover the companies and surgeons backs.
Thanks for everyone's help
xx

Firstly you definitely aren't weak or pathetic at all! Depression is incredibly common and a genuine illness, anybody who doesn't take it seriously are very naive!
I've had it and I know how awful it can be! You've done very well to get help, even just for a small episode! I think it shows you are truely in control and can spot when things aren't right - which is very valuable if you are prone to depression!
I too had counselling, it is great and gets to the bottom of the issue and let's us make sense of things, something I'd encourage anybody to do!
There's a girl on here who also had similar problems, I'm sure she will be along very soon to sympathise with you about how stressful it can be!
Also if you look on the following link you'll understand a bit more about why they can be tough with it...

Glad to hear its all taken care of with your GP and counsellor it must be a huge weight off your shoulders!!

Having had bouts of depression myself lovely, I know it takes a hell of a lot of strength, a. to first admit it and accept help and b. to fight yourself the hell out of it! So never put yourself down lovely
I'm absolutely thrilled your GP came through for you babe (I thought he would, he'd have had to have been a complete ogre to say no) so just waiting on the good news from your clinic now sweetness, which I'm sure will be a big fat YES! xx

Thank you Alice
I agree about your comment on counselling for some it may not help but for me it definitely did the trick especially talking to someone who is non biased.
Oh no I hope she has sorted things or on the way to sorting things soon.
I have had a look at that post, very informative and I can completely understand why they crack down, just think they need to give a bit more awareness so people aren't rushing around like mad women to get information faxed through ha ha
I am glad too, hopefully no more hiccups!
P.s congrats on top poster!!

Thanks cookie :smiler:
Fingers crossed it will be a yes!!
Just received an email from my old practice saying they have a statement typed up too for £20.00 charge, I am thinking I might pay this and get it just to be on the safe side?

Re: Woohoo, 'depression issue' sorted!
Thankyou!!
They totally need to pull their fingers out I agree! I had to fill in a medical screening form before my first ever consultation (I assume that's the case everywhere). I think should someone highlight on it that they've suffered from depression the PCC really needs to lay it on thick... No pre-op girls need added stress at all! It would save a lot of time and money in many cases!x

I'd hang fire babe, I doubt you'll need it haven given a letter from your GP and your councillor, it's not worth wasting money if it's not necessary. If you need it, which I doubt, then pay the money, but just wait and see what the response is from your clinic first sweetheart. xx

LadyV you are so lucky that they have told you this now and not cancelled on you the day before your op like they did to me!! I had no idea it would be a problem but the info they got from my GP wasnt good and Mr Russo wouldnt do it, then its taken over a month for them to actually sort out what to do!! I went to my GP, got a letter faxed to them really quickly saying that my mental health has been fine for the past few years etc, panic panic, only for Mr Russo to get suspended anyway lol!!
If anything I'm glad this happening to us will help make other girls aware that this might delay their surgery and they could be better prepared. Hope all goes well for the both of us :) xx

That's such a sweet thing to say after all you've been through lovely and I'm sure there will be others who will very much appreciate and admire the lead and courage you and LadyV have shown.

Letsfreedomsing that is actually disgusting patient care that they did that to you!
I was panicking at the fact that I only got told Tuesday! I am so sorry that happened to you and equally sorry about Russo being suspended!
Let's hope that because we have been through the bad..it can only get better and better and we will have lovely boobs asap!
And yes at least we can share our experiences to help others and warn them.
Good luck & I hope things start looking up xx
