Hi,

I had a surprise call today from my nurse. She was asking for my D.O.B, health issues and blood pressure. I didn't have my blood pressure details but have been told I can go to boots etc... my appt was for Feb..... And they gave me a different BA date...Lol sorted now.

Anyway, they have sent a letter to my go querying my history with depression..... I'm really worried about this because I was over very I'll. Was quite I'll with it and I pretty much lost the plot 3 years ago.

Should I be worried?? Anyone on here with experience.

Its pretty much standard procedure now to check on anyone with a history of depression to make sure they're well enough 'now' to be making decisions to have surgery.

Don't worry about your past lovely. Its about whether or not you're fit for surgery 'now' so if if all is good now there shouldn't be a problem babe. Xx

Hi, I was treated with depression in my late teens and this was asked at my pre-op check, they asked for my consent to contact my GP for more info, I was dead worried thinking they'd turn me down for being mentally unstable or something, but I heard nothing more about it. I also have really quite low blood pressure and thought this may have been an issue but again, it was fine. There should be no problems hun, good luck Pre-op call...depression query 3965254117 x

Thanks girls that's so reassuring to hear.
Depression is one of those illnesses that ppl tend to judge negatively on and it automatically makes you think negative lol

I should be OK then....I've spent years wanting this surgery done and now its happening, I don't want to be let down by my history.

Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Hi ya don't worry yourself too much I have low blood pressure and sinus tachycardia , I thought from that alone my BA wouldn't go ahead, I also had councilling last yr with my last session ending 6 weeks before my BA as i had found my grandad passed away in his bedroom and not handled it too well.I got a call from the nurse the day before surgery saying the PS had spotted councilling on my notes and wanted proof that my sessions were about my grandad otherwise he wasn't happy operating, I told her this was unacceptable asking the day before but I gather it was her fault for not spotting it sooner, surgery still went ahead, they just want to know that you are of sound mind. So I'm sure after 3 yrs you should be fine if you have had any help within the past 12 months they may just ask a little about it xx
