Worst day :(
So I woke up about 5am this morning in so much pain (tooth pain) I went to the dentist only to be told I have a hole in my tooth... He prescribed me with some antibiotics when I was on my way home I realised I'm not allowed to take these 14 days prior to op so I rang THG to double check and they said I can't take them and if I do I will have to put my op back a few days, I really don't want to have to do this!!!! I'm so upset should I just fight it out until after my op?
Also I rang the mother and she said what about paracetamol as these are different but I didn't realise that.. Are these aloud? Any opinions would be great xxxxxxx

Try rinsing with corasol I think it's called, it's an antiseptic mouthwash, see if ubcan calm the infection down that way. Not sure about paracetamol but u can't take anti inflammatory tablets and I was on really strong ones week before and they still let me go ahead xx

Re: Worst day :(
If you have an infection in your mouth lovely and then have a BA the infection could find its way to the implant which is alien to your body so your body will automatically want to fight it off and this could lead to your body rejecting the implant totally leading to you needing an explant.
Its just not worth it Jasmine, take the anti-biotics. If it means putting back the op then its in your best interest to ensure you have a safe procedure and a trouble free recovery lovely.
Any infection in your body could compromise your healing babe. Don't even think about trying to get past it. Think safe and sensible hun. Xx

Re: Worst day :(
I don't think it's infected there is just a hole which is near the nerve which is why it hurts.. I am so adamant that I don't want to change my op date I've been so excited and I'm sure there must be a way around it!!

Re: Worst day :(
Its your choice Jasmine.... For me, saying you 'don't think' there's infection and the dentist giving you anti-biotics, which they don't just hand out for nothing hun, they must suspect infection would be enough for me to put my body first rather than my excitement to get the op done. Xx
Re: Worst day :(
The only other suggestion is to call the dentist and ask if there is an infection there, if there is, the others are right, you'd be silly not to take the antiBs.
If there ISN'T an infection, maybe discuss if it is actually necessary to take them and speak to him about your BA and see what the dentist says?

Re: Worst day :(
I have to agree with our lovely cookie Hun. Very wise words.
Dentists don't just give out anti bs willy nilly , they must suspect infection to do that otherwise they would have just said an antiseptic mouthwash or from experience given you a temp filling for the hole , they won't be able to give you a temp filling of there's an infection. They have to get rid of infection first .
If it put back s op just by a few days I personally wouldn't take the risk, if the infection becomes worse you'll be looking at weeks rather than days.

Re: Worst day :(
I just rang my dentist he said don't take the antibiotics if it will interrupt with the operation but I have arranged to go back and see him Monday in which he said he will sort it out for me get the infection under control. Does this sound okay? He knows I'm having an op now just didn't say what.. So I will make sure he doesn't use anything that will interfere with my BA? Xxx

I would be completely honest hun, the difference is, your not just having an operation, you are essentially having 2 foreign objects put in your body which as Cookie has said have the potential to reject should they become infected. It's best to be honest

So you actually DO have an infection hun. I don't think you're actually comprehending the the seriousness of having your BA if you have an infection babe. Its VERY serious and not something you want to put yourself and your body at risk for.
You're surgery isn't scheduled till the 18th of feb, that's 11 days away. If you take the anti-biotics now chances are you will get rid of the infection in time for your surgery,I'm presuming you have a five to seven day course? Which gives you 4 days after stopping the ant-biotics. If you wait until Monday and its then so bad you need further treatment and anti-biotics, you'll have no chance at all of having your BA hun and could possibly be waiting a long time for your surgery.
Do what's right for yourself and your body. Take the meds you need, be honest with your clinic and hopefully you'll have your surgery as scheduled.
If not you could have some serious consequences lovely. Xx
Re: Worst day :(
Hi hun, I was just doing a quick google because i don't understand why you can't take antibiotics before surgery? Anyway, i came across these which actually talk about tooth infections x
"I would ask you ps, but the way I understand it if you have a current
infection they will not do surgery on you. They do give you antibiotics
but it's to prevent infection, not to tx one."
"Please inform your plastic surgeon that you are experiencing a tooth
infection. It may be wise to postpone your breast augmentation
procedure until all infection issues have been resolved. Best of luck.
Dr. Basu
Houston, TX"
"You certainly should inform your surgeon regarding this or any possible
infection that you may have, as there may be an increased risk of an
implant infection after surgery. I would follow up with your dentist or
oral surgeon to be certain that the dental infection is completely
resolved, prior to augmentation surgery."

Re: Worst day :(
I understand what you are all saying but the plan is on Monday he will get rid of the infection so I won't have it while I have my BA he said the antibiotics were for the pain and if I don't want to take them I don't have too xx

Re: Worst day :(
Antibiotics are NOTpercribed for pain. Painkillers are. They are prescribed to clear up infection. He will not be able to clear an infection in a day on Monday! What's he going to do different that he could have done today instead?!
Take them and be honest with your surgeon and let him decide wether your safe and fit and well for surgery.

Re: Worst day :(
I think he's going to pull the tooth out? Someone from THG is ringing me tomorrow to have a proper chat about it as the woman today was a but useless.. So I will hold off until tomorrow so I can tell them like you've all said :) xx

Re: Worst day :(
When is your surgery scheduled for Jasmine? Mrsball is right babe, it's physically impossible to clear an infection in a day.

Re: Worst day :(
Ok he may pull the tooth out but infection will still be preset in your gum, where tooth has been. It's like an I growing toenail you may pull the nail out but the infection is still preset in the surrounding skin, blood stream.
Hopefully someone can give you more advise from THG tomorrow. Why not actually ask to speak to the surgeon direct. Then he'll be able to tell you exactly how it is. X

Re: Worst day :(
So you've got 10 days which is great! Make sure you speak to someone medical at THG tomorrow and also speak to your dentist again and tell him what surgery you're having and the concerns about infection. They will be able to let you know what is the best and safest thing for you.

I still think it's best to start the abx so they can get working on the infection that is there as if they delay treating it, you've got less of a chance of your opinion going ahead if you've still got the tooth infection than if you start them now and finish them 5 days before surgery... if you see what at I mean! But see what they say tomorrow.

Totally agree. You really have to think past the excitement of wanting your surgery on the date set Jasmine and chances are you'll be fine! My second surgery I had anti-bs and only finished them days before surgery and I was fine! They'll simply ask the anaesthetist if its OK and then you'll get the all clear which I really think you will if you start the anti-bs today!
I've just spoken to my daughter as well who is a dental nurse and she's just told me with not treating the infection there's a chance the dentist won't be able to numb the area for extraction....
Are you really willing to put yourself through all of this for the sake of risking a date that will put you as at a VERY high risk of complications if you still have the infection...
I don't think we can make it any clearer to you Jasmine....xx
Re: Worst day :(
I low it. Ay feel like the worse thing thats happening right now but as the girls have said delaying treatment will end up putting your surgery back definatly. Start them now and it would have cleared up by surgery day and them they can decide what's safest for you.
And as I said it may feel like the worst thing happening to you right now but could you imagine either your surgery being put back by weeks or months not taking them or worse not taking them and having a complication after surgery , now THAT would be the worst thing that could happen to have them explanted due to infection.
