Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
It must be incredibly difficult for smokers to try and give up a long term habit to have a BA, but it really would be in your best interest to try your hardest lovely, for at least 2 weeks before your surgery and after.
I'm not sure whether many smokers understand the risks of smoking when you have a BA, but smoking actually increases the amount of carbon monoxide in your blood stream and therefore decreases the amount of oxygen possibly making your healing a lot longer than that of a non-smoker and at worst you put yourself at risk of necrosis.
You also put yourself at higher risk of infection and capsular contracture too.
I hope no-one thinks I'm lecturing.... I'm not. I'm merely highlighting just how important it is to 'try' and stop smoking before surgery and whilst healing if you can as it really is in your best interest.
Drinking... I think I had to stop drinking a week before 'my' surgery lovely, but you should always foloow the pre-op instructions given by your own surgeon/clinic. xx

I agree with what cookie said, the best thing to do is quit, it will benefit you in so many ways. I wish I had managed to quit.
Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
Thanks ladies, I am aiming to give up completley! It's the 2 weeks before I'm more worried about. I know it should be 14 days but I'm hoping 12 will be ok. As its going to be a nightmare not smoking and drinking on a girls week away!!

I'm sure 12 will be ok hun, it's amazing how quickly your body adjusts after year of smoking, the benefits and breathing changes are brilliant after 2 weeks. Just think of your new boobies as incentive, and try chewing gum and generally just eating. The most important thing to do when quitting is drink lots of water, this helps flush out the nicotine and toxins, and it'll do good things for your skin too.
Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
It's got to be worth a go!! I'll cut down now and then when I'm back from Tenerife I just won't smoke! I'll be stressed but I'll be exited about my new :) xxx

Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
It may worth considering trying nicotine patches on the run up to your operation, I used to smoke an awful lot - 30 a day for that matter - patches really helped me get through the cravings! I know how hard it is to quit but you do have something as wonderful as your BA as incentive! even if it's only temporary and you decide to begin smoking after your BA it really is important you remain strong prior!
Do check with your surgeon its ok to use patches, of corse I imagine you'll still have to avoid them just prior to surgery but they may get you by the first few days.
Also try strong mints, drinking plenty, lollipops and most importantly keeping your hands busy so do things like paint/file your nails etc.
Worth a read of an article I just found:
Here
Good luck though and enjoy your holiday, it will all be worth it in the end  X

Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
I quit smoking 18 months ago. I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking which really helped and motivated me (you actually smoke while you read it so if you're thinking of cutting down when you're on holiday maybe take it with you to read on the beach). It might be worth a shot. Good luck! I understand it must be difficult to pack both in on a girly holiday but it'll be worth it and you get a lovely pair of new boobies as your reward x

Re: Smoking and alcohol!!
I wouldn't imagine you could use nicotine replacements hun as it's the actual nicotine in your system causing the problem and you want that out to enable you to get the best from your recovery don't you.
WELL DONE for getting through day 1 sweetheart, we're here for encouragement should you need us. Stick at it babe! xx
