Gym before BA to help muscles?!
Ok so I don't know where this thought came from and it may sound a bit odd...
I have been reading people's BA stories for hours now and have noticed one or two have mentioned muscle pain as they had tight chest muscles.
Would going to the gym/swimming before my BA be beneficial to my muscles? As in make them work so when the surgeon is pushing and pulling my chest in theatre it won't be too painful? I'm having 400cc unders and not looking forward to the pain at all, I'm a crybaby despite being diabetic! haha.
I don't know if this makes much sense so sorry for confusion :/ xx

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
I've had the exact same thoughts!! lol
I'm naturally quite muscley, especially in my arms and chest, I try not to work them too much in fear of looking like a man!
Though I did start working my pectoral muscles as I know that muscles that are used to being worked tend to heal quicker.
I think using the gym etc should help you, though I'm no expert!! Xx

Ooooh both of your points make sense, even if they are complete opposites! I think I may give Google a visit and see if it comes up with anything else :)
Thank you!xx

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
I've had a look on google, apparently having good pec muscles is a good thing, just don't work out for a week prior to surgery as having sore/ tight muscles will make recovery more painful! Xxx

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
I think the more you work them out, the more the muscle tone increases, the tighter it will be to stretch, so I wouldn't exercise those muscles specifically.
However, being generally fit helps A LOT to recover from any operation faster, and I would encourage you to do lots of cardio to that end.
Good luck!

i'd agree, building up your pecs would not help with post op pain. maybe doing some stretches for the few days before the op if you really want to try sth x

Having toned muscles will make the recovery more uncomfortable, so if you do not generally work out these muscles I would just leave the toneing them up for now.
Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
Hi,
I had 395cc complete unders and the recovery was quite painful. My PS said that he had alot of trouble getting the implants unders the muscle cause my muscles were quite tight due to my weight training at the gym. But I am a wimp when it comes to pain lol....and I guess most people will have some degree of pain post op regardless if they go over the muscle or under or if they have tight muscles or not.

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
dont do it. Overdeveloped muscles make unders look like mens pecs.
If youve got strong chest muscles you probably need overs

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
I found it helped to strengthen my stomach muscles by doing sit ups and crunches before my BA, so I could sit up in bed without having to push up on my arms (as that really hurts for the first few days). x

Agree with Abbie. I trained a lot before my BA and had bad muscle flex distortion resulting in a placement change. I'm not saying this will happen if u have unders - everyone is different but in my case I believe I should have been given overs first time round.

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
Thank you for the replies, I'll give the gym a miss for a while then. Want to have the minimal amount of pain as possible as I'm such a baby!

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
I'm no expert either but solely on my experience alone, I would say the less you train the better...I lift weights a lot and have pretty strong pectoral muscles (or had), and I am still recovering almost 5 months later..I had little breast tissue so had to go with unders, but I do wish that I didn't have to :)

Re: Gym before BA to help muscles?!
According to my surgeon, I have "quite well defined pecs"! He told me to lay off weight bearing exercise. I wouldn't mind but the "weight bearing exercise" I do is carrying my massive 11 month old!! Not easily avoided!
