Re: Having your period on your BA
im due on when i have my re-op i think. I use a mooncup. Im assuming that will be fine as although its internal it runs no risk of toxic shock. I wasnt planning on even mentioning it to them

Its a little cup like thing you put up like a tampon. Its collects blood and then you empty and put back in. Not used one but they make me giggle cos I used to work with a girl who'd had a few kids and the moon cup comes in two sizes...she joked that even the bigger one wouldn't do for her so she would use a bucket! I was crying laughing!

I want to get a mooncup. Sounds messy though , but apparently a good invention. I'm really worried I'm gonna leave a huge stain on the theatre table!

Mooncups! I'm learning new stuff all the time on this site!
I was due on the day of my (original) op date and was advised that wearning a tampon was fine but to tell the hospital staff on the day. Best to check with your hospital because it seems to vary. Wasn't an issue for me as I was mid-cycle again by the time my op took place.

theyre not messy at all. certainly less messy than a sanitary towel. I just find them much more convenient and easier to use than tampons.

Good luck Jolene!!!!!
Abbie I have been thinking about getting a mooncup. Do you need 2, like one in and one spare so that you can thoroughly clean one at a time?? Or is it just one that is needed?

Re: Having your period on your BA
just one is fine. You just wash it under the tap as and when, when youre at home, and then you can give it a proper clean or sterilise it with boiling water if you want after your period has finished, but you dont need to sterilise it every use.

Re: Having your period on your BA
the cup bit goes upwards. You trim the stalk off to whatever length is most comfortable. Most people trim it off completely. You then kind of fold it, and put it in. Sometimes takes a couple of goes to get the hang of it, but once you do, its easy peasy. No leaks, no problems at all
You cant feel it when its in anymore than you can a tampon.
they last longer than tampons generally too, you can go much longer between changes

I also came on the morning of my surgery and like you Carrie was told I could keep my tampon in. I chose not too, I know it's not nice wearing a pad, but the medical staff must be used to it.
I'll have a look at the mooncup Abbie.

Re: Having your period on your BA
I came on morning before my op and it was no great problem. Told the nurses in the morning and they were great. Had drains in so she helped me to loo in afternoon and stood outside door while i sorted myself out. Really was no great problem.
