Having your period on your BA
Hi. I've posted something about this in one of the other topics but thought this would generate more responses. I'm due any day now (I hope) to come on, but I'm worried coz I've got my surgery in a week. What if I come on around my surgery date. I can get very bad cramps some times and it's not just that. Changing my towels or tampons may be a struggle when I'm all sore and bandaged up. Has any one else had to go into their BA when they're on. I really don't want to be on for my op but it looks like I will now

Re: Having your period on your BA
I came on about an hour before my op! I've heard you have to use a pad rather than tampons in surgery but I just didn't think at the time and used a tampon anyway as I wasn't told....
Somehow my period stopped again later in the day and didn't come back for a few days, think it must've been the stress of the operation on my body or something.
Anyway don't worry, when you think about it it must be really common to be on when you have your BA, seeing as we are all women and it happens every month!

Re: Having your period on your BA
so changing pads wasn't a hassle for you after your op, mrsm?
I know you're not supposed to use paracetamol before your op because it can cause bleeding, so do you need ibuprofen for cramps?

Tampons are a no. You wont have any problems in the days following your op, it's reaching up thats a problem not down lol. They are so used to it. The staff are always lovely. Dont worry.
Re: Having your period on your BA
HM i think it's the other way round, no ibrupofen or asprin only paracetamol!!!!

I was given Norethisterone to stop period. However, you need to take before you get period to stop it! They made me feel bloated! x

Re: Having your period on your BA
lol it's easy to get off the toilet and you prob wont be going no 2 for a few days, flushing the toilet is a different matter. 2 hands is needed. I also couldn't open or shut the doors. so had a towel on the floor to kick behind the door to keep it shut, but not shut tight. Getting out of bed is also a fun one, just work those tummy and leg muscles.
Re: Having your period on your BA

Re: Having your period on your BA
The GA can make you slightly constipated. Most people try a herbal remedy if becomes uncomfortable. You will have a big belly post op. It does go down lol

Re: Having your period on your BA
Hi... ...I had re aug on thursday and started my period the day before. I bought some 'full bum' cotton knickers and pads as i had an idea tampoms were a not an option during surgery.
Regarding the bloated tummy, i think the ga can make you bloated...then the pain relief (codeine) typically makes you constipated. Up until yesterday, five days after surgery, my belly resembled how i looked at 5 month pregnant!...x

Re: Having your period on your BA
I'm already back in my room and have eaten lunch. I've got a very light early period a few days ago and have worn a thick panty liner.
