showering, and scars
I ve been told I can shower, as i had the knot cut off my dissolvable stitches yesterday, cleaned my incisions and had tape over them.
ive got micropore tape here to reput on after i have a shower.
but i am wondering, should i be changing the strips everyday? i mean i like to shower every day, but seen as they were cleaned yesterday, i was going to leave them today, and just wash my bits then have a proper shower tomorrow. would this be ok?
i think its just im petrified of giving my self an infection, if i keep taking the strips off,i know this sounds silly as its hygenic to wash everday, i think im just a bit scared at looking at them as im squeemish!

I didnt have any strips to change with afterwards! i had one set that the nurse put on after my week check up and after about 3 days i took them off and showered like normal!
since then theyve been uncovered and ive had no issues at all. I know everyone is different tho so it may be best to just check with your nurse or someone :) xx

oohh i don't know, he put tape over mine and it's still there as he told me that it should come off on its own, so i daren't take it off even though i'm itching to as i'm worried of infection. it can't be hygienic to have it on so long.
i just shower and damp them dry.

Hi FB!!
I was advised the same as you..from what you say!!
As soon as dressings removed at first check. I think 1 week after?
My incisions were cleaned, checked, and surgeon put micropore tape on. Informed me O.K. to shower and to change micropore daily (gave me a roll, skin colour, very narrow) and also to dab pure vit.e.oil on untill 6week check. Apparently the tape helps heal and flatten incisions as well as protect. I did this, and it did not bother me, my incisions were/are small and have always been flat and closed very quickly.
However, if you are not ready to look at them, as most arent, just shower with them on and dab dry with towel, or strip wash for today. You wont harm them. I would not leave them on for too many days without changing though.
You will know when it feels right for you to remove...even if you dont want to look!! Great thing about boobs eh!!! You cant see under without a mirror or moving them out the way.....BLISS!!

FB!!! Great idea...let him help out ..sharing eh!!
It wont matter the thickness, colour etc. it is not seen by anyone. As long as you are comfortable and it also saves bra rubbing on incisions too.
Each day is better eh xx

Could'ent agree more FB!!
I was very lucky, it seems, I had all info, care management etc. in writing and verbally. And surgeon's and nurses contact no.s etc. on hand.... Just as well as I had noone to ask and with doing it all on my own I would have been very lost. But, that peace of mind was all that was needed. I did not need to call as the whole process went well. I only found everyone here around 4months post-op I think!!
You keep sharing FB!! The only way !!! Minefield indeed... xx

Re: showering, and scars
Hi Fb
I was like Drofty, told my clear plaster would come off on their own, but I didn't actually get my wet for at least a week, then it took another week for them to come off, and they itched like hell during that time. I was also very careful when the did come off, didn't leave shower running over scars for long at all, and very careful dabbing them dry with clean towel,, xx

Re: showering, and scars
I couldn't shower for 13 days it was horrible, it was may, we had a heatwave. Nasty.
I would follow what they suggested, you wont give yourself an infection. Just shower pat your scars dry and put more tape over them. You will be fine.

Re: showering, and scars
You sound like my daughter...bless xx
If you just remove them gently, dont look, and talk to him whilst he does it, it should make it easier. The incisions should be well closed up by now, and there will only be a line there. Perhaps if you find it easier ask your p.s. /nurse if o.k. to do what I done and keep them covered for a week or two with tape, steristrips?, anything really, if it makes you feel better. Everyone takes their own time to do things and we all feel different...I am an old toughy sadly xx
