disolvable stitches not disolving?
I found what felt like an ingrown hair at the end of one of my scars last night so got the tweezers out (i know i know) anyway, i got something out that sort of crumbled away and can still feel something under the skin but didnt want to agitate it any further. It dosnt hurt , its not red or painful just wondering if it could be a stitch and if itll work its way out on its own?

I had this too hun, i had to get mine out as well because it had a scab hanging on the end of it (gross i know!) i think it should heal over try to keep it clean though and if it starts to weep then go and see your surgeon.

Re: disolvable stitches not disolving?
Hi dbs!!
Sounds like you may just have some of the stitches there...dont think they will do any harm!! However, if it were me, I would ring the clinic/hospital... whoever you see, and ask them to check and offer advise. It could make for better healing and softer incision site. I think it just eases the mind too, and scar management advice is always helpful!! xxx

Re: disolvable stitches not disolving?
When the nurse snipped my stitches at my first post op check she said that this could happen and that it wasn't anything to worry about. Sometimes they take longer to dissolve than others. I'd give them a ring tomorrow tho just to be on the safe side.

Re: disolvable stitches not disolving?
Thats a relief thanks girls. It actually feels much better now Iv had a bath and the lump I thought I felt yesterday I now think is scar tissue as it dosnt feel any different to the edge of the scar on the other side so I must have cleared out whatever it was. Phew thanks again!

Yes, I had a few of those too - some just take a bit longer than others to dissolve. They've all gone now. But like Mia says if any of them give you any more trouble just give the clinic a ring ...

Re: disolvable stitches not disolving?
I think I can feel a stitch at the end of my scar on both my boobs, armpit side on each, one of them seems to be working its way out, but everytime I start to have a good look I get shouted at not to pick . It feels different to the rest of the scar so I just assumed its the end of the stitch. 3 weeks until my next check up, so I'll just see how it goes and leave it alone. I'll ring my nurse if I need to though. Glad dbs posted this, I hadn't given it any thought, but at least I know its normal now.

Re: disolvable stitches not disolving?
I still have a stitch poking out the corner of my right incision. I'm hoping it will just dissolve in its own time, if not I will tell the nurse at my 6 week check xx

i didn't have dissolvable stitches after my BA, but i have had them twice before for other operations and on both occassions, they took a really long time to dissolve.
