Spitting stitches "sigh"
ok so I'm now 6 weeks PO and after finally getting the holes in my right breast to heal (and left breast as same happened there) Only on Tuesday by Thursday I woke up to find a brand new frikkin hole. Saw my surgeon on Thursday as already had an appt with him and he said my body is rejecting the sutures. I can see another one coming too already. I'm gutted and fed up :(
I've read about this happening but honestly I've had enough of not being bloody healed. I thought at 6 weeks PO I'd be over the worst and able to do fun things like get measured, wear different bras, and work out again (I've put on half a stone). Plus my right boob us sat high and my left is still square.
Does anyone know how long the spitting stitches phase lasts?

I think Cookie had a similar problem where she had an allergy to dissolvable stitches & was recommended for future surgeries that they use permanent stitches instead. Hopefully with your surgeons aftercare they can keep on top of things and get your healing back on track! XXX

Re: Spitting stitches "sigh"
Thanks guys sorry didn't come back on here til now as I was working last night.
Surgeon said its just something that happens but not often I don't think. Cookie had the same thing did she? I might PM her and ask how long until they healed. I did my research so I'd read about this but didn't think I'd have a reaction to dissolvable stitches. My boobs are so achy today.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] thanks for the cyber hug
I'm feeling a better today just was totally fed up yesterday. I think I just have resign myself to the fact my recovery is gonna be a while.
I had holes because it was a weak area where my incisions meet at the t junction (I had a full anchor lift as well so don't worry)
Did my first bit of exercise yesterday as the surgeon said I could and it was swimming (surgeon said I could) but wow my boobs ache today!

Re: Spitting stitches "sigh"
Spitting stitch is different to your body rejecting the stitches. A spitting stitch is very common, it's just the body working foreign material out of the body. Sort of in the same way if you had a splinter you couldn't get, your body would eventually work it out. Your body rejecting the stiches can cause the holes, rather than them just weeding out. Cookie did have the same thing, I think hers got to the size of a £2 coin (I don't think you'll get hold of her right now, but definitely search past posts).
I would keep on at them, because it may well be that they need to be replaced with something else. An open wound is open to infection also. I'm sorry you're dealing with this, it's really crappy. Hopefully they'll be better soon and you can get on with your boobs.

Re: Spitting stitches "sigh"
Fingers crossed it all clears up quickly. Maybe suggest a different form of sutures at your next appoinent if things haven't improved by then. I would be nervous about swimming because of the infection risk, I realise your surgeon said it was ok but I think it's probwbly best avoided with an open wound? Please don't worry about weight gain....I put on half a stone but it's easy to loose when the time's right x

I hope things heal quickly for you Hun but I would avoid swimming if you've got any kind of hole or wound, I would also avoid baths until fully healed x

Re: Spitting stitches "sigh"
If I remember correctly, they left them to heal on their own, but because of her underlying auto immune issues, they had to intervene. I'll have a good search tomorrow and see if I can find her past threads about it

These were the only two threads I could find. I'm sure she posted a pic somewhere. Maybe have a good read through her surgery stories too, might be some more info in there.

Re: Spitting stitches "sigh"
Poor Cookie she's been through a lot!
She says in a post it took her 5 months so really hoping it doesn't take that long
I've had 5 holes so far but 2 are healed now, it took about 3 weeks for them to heal so I'm hoping my current 2 holes heal and then fingers crossed I get no more.
