Spitting stitches
Ok I never even knew what this was untill I was googling last night what my problem might be...
Basically I've got a few red spots along my scars, not on the scars but near. I know from experience with my c-section scars that it's dissolveable stitches that haven't dissolved properly, but I don't know what to do about it?
A couple I had from my c-section eventually got infected and I really really really dont want that to happen on my boobs so wondering if there's anything I can do.
Has anyone had this?
xx

Re: Spitting stitches
I had this hun..........had a hard painfull lump & it turned out to be a stitch Knot coming to the surface I too was worried about it as i had my appendix out when i was 13 & had the same thing but the knot got infected & left me with a whole, which in turn left me with a odd looking scar.
I booked into see the nurse & she 'dug' the knot out! .......was not painfull at all, infact it was a releaf & felt 100 time better she cleaned the ting hole & covered it our to heal with no problems.
I tink if your 4 moths down the line hun then even if they did get infected it would just be the tiny stitch & wouldnt effect you boobs/ implants as such.
If you have any worries Hun give the clinic a call.
Are they painfull at all?

Re: Spitting stitches
Yeah I'm really hoping an infection wouldn't spread to my implants, that's what I'm most worried about really.
One spot's getting sore, it's at the end of my scar so I'm thinking it's probably the knot. eeek I don't like the sound of it being took out!

Re: Spitting stitches
Honestly hun it really is not painfull a all, just feels so much better after!
even if it did get infected i wouldnt think it would spread to the implant hun as your 4 months post-op .....I think it can only do that straight after your op when everything is still 'open & healing' so there is more of a direct route for the infection to spread & get in but like i say 4 moths post op youll all be healed so I think if it dose get infected it would remain around the stitch.
Try not to worry & and give your clinic a call.........i think dissolveable stitches are EVIL!They never dissolve so why do they use them

Re: Spitting stitches
I agree the dissolveable stitches are AWFUL!
I too think thats all it is, and Crystal is right doesnt really hurt to get it out and feels so much better when out!
I would just call the clinic too and ask to be sure... but I dont think its really an infection, more of an irritation and I dont think it will spread to the implant.
At my last po Check they pulled a bunch out, and since then I keep finding new spots along my scars where I feel one starting to poke out again, I just clean the area with saline and use tweezeres which I have washed with alcohol and pull maybe dig a little and try and get them out I then put on this perscription cream my ps gave me after my op and then it seems to heal up fine. But its frusterating because they still seem to appear and then I have to go through it again... thus making the whole healing processs take longer!

Re: Spitting stitches
Yikes!!! I have got a long one poking out about 1inch! and loads of little red spots under my boobies along my scars.. Are they ALL spitting stitches that are going poke out of my skin to need digging out??? YUK!!!!
Or should I just deal with the one and leave the rest to see what they do??? Supposed to dissolve????.... my foot!!!

Re: Spitting stitches
I remember when I had stitches after giving birth - they were supposed to be dissolvable but all that happened was they healed under the skin and the ends curled over like barbed wire and dug back in - luckily that was in the days when you stayed in hospital for a week - so the nurse took them out for me - she said they would have never dissolved as they were as thick as fishing line!
Am not looking forward to this happening to my new boobs - am seeing consultant on Wednesday - will put this on my list of questions.
