Very worrying letter
I've received a letter from my hospital and anaesthetist requesting me to go in to have a meeting about "detailed aspects of the anaesthetic that i did not think it would be helpful to explain to you at the time of surgery" & that he has been "persuaded" that i now have all the relevant information.
It's made me pretty worried that something fairly serious happened during my surgery that so far (8weeks down the line) no one's told me about.

Re: Very worrying letter
Wow, that sounds ominous. I'm sure its fine, you've come out the other side ok...but the wording of that does sound dodgy. I'd go in and talk to them asap to find out. Let us know what happens (obviously within reason so its not incriminating to anyone and you're ok discussing it)

Re: Very worrying letter
It might be something very small but because of all their legal paperwork have to explain it face to face. Hopefully anyway. Good luck

Re: Very worrying letter
What a horribly worded communication , guaranteed to panic you! Though sure it will just be referring to something you need to know if you need another ga in the future xx

Re: Very worrying letter
Yes emma71 you have probably hit the nail on the head. It may be something like your blood pressure during surgery or something along those lines. But take it as a positive, and it's something that you need to know about during any further surgery you may have . Xxx

Re: Very worrying letter
That is unsettling! Try to worry although it's natural to be worried. Hopefully you can see them soon but otherwise perhaps ask if they can shed some light over the phone first so you can consider it and stop worrying. It's terrible that it said they needed to be persuaded....whatever happened to openness and transparency! Perhaps they have your concerns at heart and dont want to worry you, like Emma71 says some knowledge to bear in mind for a future GA. Or perhaps they've done a review and realised they made a slight medication error that they should share with you, but no harm done as like chari says you're out the other side with a good recovery. Knowledge is power so good that they are sharing. Keep us posted but bear in mind any legalities (if any!) before doing so!

Re: Very worrying letter
Oh now I reckon it's the latter, that theyve had a good old consult with the lawyers and been told they need to tell you some slight thing they did wrong. Obviously no harm done as you are fine but sounds like they've been told legally they have to disclose xx

Re: Very worrying letter
Could be any number of things that the ladies above have mentioned, as others have said you are fit & recovering well so try not to worry too much in the meantime!

Re: Very worrying letter
They would have to tell you about a medication error. We have this happen at work at times, and it has to be reported. Xx

Re: Very worrying letter
It's come directly from the anaesthetist rather than the hospital or my clinic so it's obviously very much related to him & something he did/didn't do/should have told me about on the day of my surgery. Didn't see him again after being put under though xx

Re: Very worrying letter
Hi, I never see my anaesthetist after the op either. I think usually they have no need to. Unless there was a problem xxx

Re: Very worrying letter
I can understand your concern sweetheart, but do try not to let this worry you too much - you're here! You're OK! And given that the aneasthetist was 'persuaded' as you say to contact you, I should imagine this to be something very minor, otherwise you really would have been informed about whatever it was immediately after surgery when your surgeon comes round to check you over and see that all is well.
Please let us know how you get Emz. Xx

I'd personally be taking the lack of urgency to talk to you as another sign that whatever it is they have to tell you isn't going to be that bad hun. I hope you're feeling at least a little less anxious now. Xx

Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Not yet. They were struggling to fit me in at a time that they couldn't guarantee i'd be waiting for ages - self employed so can't really afford to spend half the day there. Have to phone them again on monday to try & sort something xx
