Post by twinkleroo 2nd February 2015, 6:16 pm

Hi all, I am due to return to work when ill be 18 days post op. I work for Aldi, very physical busy job! My boss knows about my op and we agreed I'd return on shorter shifts and light duties.  Basically light duties is no lifting, so it would be sitting on a till & tidying up the shelves of the lighter goods aisle (thinking health & beauty aisle! )
I'm still feeling pain in my left boob (currently 12 days post op) and im worried about the repeating arm movement on the till and not being able to stretch for things.
Is there much improvement with healing between now & Sunday?  If I need to get signed off sick I need to do it sooner rather than later so they can get my sun, mon & tues shift covered. Or do I just go back? It's only 3 shifts then I have 5 days off again.

Sorry for the long post,  trying to write this with kids in the background!

If you can get signed off work for the extra time I would. It's better to be safe than sorry. Are you still struggling with arm movement? You could still be getting a little pain in your boobs for a few weeks yet. Especially when you over do it. It's your body's way of saying stop. I would have thought when you have full movement in your arms then go back to light duties. Especially as your job is quiet demanding. Xx

Yep I'm still not able to fully lift my arm up without wincing.  I just hate letting work down as they do accommodate me very well with hours around childcare etc and I'm never off sick, but if I can't physically do the job then what can I do? X

You also need to think about yourself. You are clearly not ready yet. Even on the till you still have to lug the occasional heavy item . If you go back for those 3 days, you could end up taking longer off. But only you know how you really feel. Xx

Id still be quite wary of the tills as some things can be quite heavy on there. You dont want to compromise your aftercare and put your recovery back a step. As you said too, if you cant physically do the job then its best to give them notice so they can cover shifts xx

Yes some heavy items,  repetitive and so busy! Think I'm talking myself out of going back as deep down I know I'm not going to be recovered enough. Just hate letting people down but I come first.

I know how you feel, but if you take the time to recover properly now you wont need to take any extra time later if something goes wrong from going back to early. Like you say, you come first xx

I think if you can easily and happily do so, take the extra time. Aldi's not going to go bust if you take an extra week! But your boobs won't thank you if you have to scan through 10 jumbo bags of kitty litter or something!

Listen to your instinct. Only you know how you feel and no need to jeopardise your recovery....just think how far you've come, and how much you've spent!!

When are you due back to see your surgeon? Can you not take any more time off work? Or ask to do lighter duties. Not sure how easy that is coz I'm sure on another post you said you worked on a farm. I think you maybe taking on too much too soon x

You really have to listen to your body, if you are in pain then slow it down and do less! Honestly, or else you'll feel awful if the worst happens.

I would absolutely take it easy and try to get lighter duties. I know it doesn't seem ideal, but what's better? Taking the time now to heal properly, or having to take twice as much time because you've done yourself a mischief and need a re-op?

Thanks girls. I ain't due to see surgeon until dec but u have contacted the clinic to ask them their advice.  My job is very strenuous but I can do lighter duties if I wish which I have opted for tomorrow. I think I took on too much too soon. Xx
