THG - A couple of q's
Hi all,
as the titles suggests:
1. When and how did you get told what time you need to be at the hospital for? Op is on Sat and haven't heard anything yet.
2. Did any of you use their car service? I have it for the journey there, but is it just a local taxi company to the patient that gets used?
Thanks in advance :)

I don't think I heard until around 48hrs beforehand. But if you're getting nervous, give them a call.
I didn't use the car service, kept that £500, but no, its not just a local cab, its a private service that the hospital enlists especially. They go all over the country for it. How far are you from Dolan park (assuming you're heading there rather than a day case)?

Re: THG - A couple of q's
Hi Charlii, I'm over 2 hrs from there, so it was tricky getting a lift, especially with needing someone to look after my little girl. Luckily they just charge 110 each way now regardless of distance, so I'll use that there, and then get picked up on the Sunday.
I'll give them a call tomorrow afternoon then to see if there's any news. They must have the surgery lists in place by then (I would think!). Did they ring or email you? x

Hi I heard 2 days before and they said it was because the surgeon had not given them the theatre list as yet. But call them to find out. You are paying enough. X

Hmm, what they charge for it varies girl to girl! I had a 7am check in, so didn't really want to get up at stupid o'clock to get there, so we booked in the night before locally, and hubs stayed a 2nd night to take me home.
I'm pretty sure they called.

Re: THG - A couple of q's
It's really not unusual to be kept waiting for your booking in time for the hospital till a couple of days before your op. This time of year especially the hospitals are up to capacity and so, so busy, plus they have revisions and emergencies they have to slot in in between also, so please don't think they've forgotten about you. As suggested though. A little call to maybe push things along won't hurt.
I can't help with the car travel though, sorry lovely, but it seems you're happy with the price anyway so that's good. Xxx

Re: THG - A couple of q's
Thanks all :)
yep, not toooo fussed with the price...would have been better to have obviously got a lift, but no point dwelling on the impossibles ;) I look at train/taxi/hotel for the Friday, but in all honesty, it wouldn't have save me much at all, and for the comfort of door to door I'll go with the easy option.
I was actually very pleased to hear that they were fully booked though now (asked PCC a few weeks back), as I had recently heard that a surgery got postponed by a day as the surgeon didn't have enough ops scheduled in! Shocking! Really couldn't risk that as organising childcare for the weekend is a logistical nightmare so close to xmas! So dreading the surgeon coming down with an illness though!!

Re: THG - A couple of q's
Hi Boobies2be,
Thanks for the PM on Monday - I haven't posted enough to reply privately, but nothing I wouldn't want to share with anyone anyway...
Admission call: I received an email on Monday asking me to call after 4pm for my admission time, fasting details, and what to bring. But they called me with the info around 2pm.
Travel: I was lucky enough to have two of my cousins drive me up and look after me. We went up (from London) on Sunday night and stayed at the Travelodge about 5 minutes away.
The day: I arrived just before 11am, was taken straight to my room and asked to put my surgical gown on. The healthcare assistant then took me through a thorough medical form, measured me up for surgical stockings and put my hospital bands on. Not long after that, Mr Sulaiman came round to mark me up and take pics. About an hour later the anesthetist came round to do his bit and advised it'd be about another 2 hours before surgery. I went in to theatre around 3.45pm in the end. They woke me up in my room around 6.15/30pm.. I vaguely remember them squeezing me into my bra and me eating biscuits! Mr Sulaiman also came round for a poke and told my cousins he was very pleased.
Overnight: Lots of observations, cups of tea, some paracetamol and ibuprofen. They went through my discharge info at 5am...needless to say I needed to hear that again a few hours later! Another prod, poke and thumbs up from Mr Sulaiman around 6am.
Staff: The healthcare assistants were lovely, but the daytime nurses were seriously lacking in bedside manner!! The theatre nurse was really nice, but don't get too attached as you'll only have 10 mins max with him/her before you're out for the count haha!
Discharge: I was out and on my way my 10am
Recovery: Stiffness across the chest and shoulders, but not in too much pain (yet) - discomfort is a good word. I'm saving the paracetamol/codeine combo for night time (as it makes you a bit drowsy) and sticking to ibuprofen during the day. I slept well last night and have had a few snoozes throughout the day today. I'm going to get dressings changed tomorrow, I expect that to take it out of me a bit.
Have I missed anything?? Overall, I feel much better than I thought I would and they're huge and high haha.
Let me know if you've got anymore questions x

Ah Rose thank you so much...such a brilliant account and I'm so pleased it all went well! You didn't say if YOU are pleased with them though...hoping you are as you sound very upbeat in your post :)
It seems to be the norm to do discharge details at 5am....I think I am quite possibly dreading that early wake up more than the surgery itself haha. I am so not a morning person :/
Did you go for the full or corse profile implants do you know? Do you mind me asking what size you were starting out?
Thanks again so much :)

Re: THG - A couple of q's
Just gave them a quick call and the good news is that I'm getting picked up between 5 and 5.30am for a 7am admission, which means I'm an AM surgery. Whoop!!! So happy :) :)

Hi ladies! THG is where my preference lies when it comes to surgery and reading this has made me feel at ease about my choice. Can i ask which hospital you had your surgery? x

My surgery was done at their Dolan park hospital. I couldn't fault it :) x

Re: THG - A couple of q's
Hi Rachael. If you're an overnight patient, it will be at their Dolan Park hospital in the midlands. If you're a day case, they have some local theatres, e.g mine would have been Hammersmith if Id gone with day surgery. Majority will be Dolan park though.
