Training...
Hey ladies , any of you into gym, personal training , yoga, Pilates etc? How long after BA did you get back into it?
I've got my first PT session later (6 wks po this coming Sunday) dreading it as I feel so weak but wanna get back into my routine. I normally do private Pilates but it's really hardcore at the best of times let alone now when I'm weak.

Re: Training...
Hi well I'm a proper hardcore mountain biker as in riding up mountains in North Wales or Alps etc and chucking myself down on the bike. First of all I would ask your surgeon what he recommended as if you hurt your boobs it may affect aftercare if it's done too soon , and also a very good stay put sports bra. If all is ok and you feel safe to do it , work your way gently into it at first. But this is only my opinion . Cookie might be able to advise you better or one of the more experienced girls as I'm new to having a BA . Xx

Re: Training...
My daughter does the hardcore biking in Wales too Anne
She's got one of those cameras to wear on her helmet and she loves showing me what's recorded because she knows how sick I get watching ma lil baby (she's 22 but my youngest) putting herself in such danger. She loves wall climbing too. The girl just loves scaring the poop outta her mother lol.
MI55NP - generally after a 6 week period you get the all clear to treat your boobs as normal. For some this could be as soon as 4 weeks, others as long as 12.
Once your surgein does give you that all clear to treat your boobs as you're own, off ya go and just enjoy them as if they were there from the day you were born!
But....ooooo, there's always that horrible but isn't there lol. Just because your surgein give you the all clear, this doesn't mean your boobs have.
As you say, you're still feeling and weak and don't feel ready and this is absolutely normal and VERY common.
The key to getting back to your fitness levels and back into whatever training you do is 'slow and steady' most importantly listening to your boobs. If you're doing too much you can be sure your boobs will let you know because you'll ache and feel sore, so pull back a little and do less building up again.
This can take weeks! But you WILL get back to where you were but with beautiful new boobs to do it with

Re: Training...
I was back on my road bike after 2 weeks, then running and gym after 5 weeks...I'm 10 weeks BA now and pretty much back to normal, pushing things are hard as I was pre-BA. A lot depends on the implants though I think...I was very clear with my surgeon that, after the period of recovery, I didn't want the implants to impede my active lifestyle

Re: Training...
That's not something your surgeon has control over. Not even the best surgeons in the world can guarantee that.rrr wrote:I was very clear with my surgeon that, after the period of recovery, I didn't want the implants to impede my active lifestyle
If 'you're lucky' and you have a good recovery, for the few that do have great recoveries getting back to normality in their training can be a piece of cake.
But for the majority of women this takes time 'after the recovery period'. Ignoring pain and aches could put you back on the operating table if you do too much, too soon and your body itself will tell you when it's too soon.
Your surgeon simply can't predict a great recovery. It's al up to the individual and how 'their' body reacts to the surgery they had. Xx

Re: Training...
he didn't guarantee me anything cookie...what he said was if I had a sensible size then, once I had recovered, I would find exercising much easier than if I'd had a larger size and also he said that even the recovery time (because I was having a sensible size) and overs would be minimal. he was very clear that there were no guarantees though and I should listen to my body, it was his informed judgment which has proven to be correct with hindsight

Re: Training...
My ps said 6 weeks break from gym, then do what you feel comfortable with. Just listen to your body, as you would normally. X x

Re: Training...
Your surgeon did give you good advise in telling you about there being no guarantee and that you should listen to your body.
We're all different....our pain thresholds are all different. The trauma to the breasts in surgery may differ from one woman to another. Some women having partials might have a fab recovery and some having overs might have a really hard time contradicting the theory of having a quicker recovery with over. Breast Augmentation isn't an exact science and however much a surgeon does to try and help reduce risks...ultimately, how soon you'll get back to were you were pre-op, well that's simply down to the individual regardless of implant size, profile, placement or surgeons expertise.
Taking your recovery one day at a time, recognising that you are unique and listening to your body, putting no pressure on yourself to get back to where you were pre-op really is the best way to go Xx

Re: Training...
My ps told me 6 weeks for normal activity and genera training but 12 weeks recovery for anything extreme like boxing or tabata(which has loads of push ups). I would definitely go slow and steady as previously suggested as it's a lot of money to waste if they get ruined due to rushing the training. But, only you will know how much your body can take x

Re: Training...
I agree, just listen to your body. I restarted Pilates at 5 weeks but couldn't do all the exercises. And then circuits/insanity about 8 weeks but avoided chest exercises as didn't feel confident doing them. Just start slowly and your body will tell you!

Re: Training...
It's definitely good to keep your body moving once the initial op period is over. I had a great recovery but erred too much on the side of caution, barely any arm movement for first 3 weeks thinking my super protectiveness would further promote my recovery. By 4wooks I had awful upper back pain & frozen shoulder due to inactivity & poor posture. I learnt that regular gentle movement while being careful to listen to your body is really important from the early days post op.

Re: Training...
Yes candy pink I would echo that. I have been over cautious and now have back ache and my shoulders had really started to hurt. I'm starting to loosen up a bit now. I'm 9 days pis top and starting to go into town for a walk about etc and wandered if I was over doing it. But I think it's doing me good. Xxx
