Work after ba
I am thinking of the lead up to my ba and having to tell my boss about being off on sick certificate for two weeks for my surgery (wont be telling her what for, she's far from understanding) needless to say i'm actually crapping it!! I am a nail technician so do a lot of arm movements, especially where acrylics are involved!
I was wondering how much time you had off and if you felt it was enough. I'm really worried about being in pain and not being ready but maybe that's because I am just being overly cautious??

Re: Work after ba
Hey!!
I've read somewhere it's 10days to two weeks. All depends on your healing process I suppose.
I'm in the same pickle! I sit at a desk all day then work in a bar 3 nights a week so pulling pints etc may be difficult!!

Re: Work after ba
I've not had mine but am having 10 days off, I am desk based though with no real lifting - bar files out the cabinet which is concerning me as mine are high lol!

I took 2 weeks off. It was fine as I have a desk job but driving was still a little uncomfortable.

Re: Work after ba
I took one weeks holiday, but then had the luxury of working from home for the following 2, so 3weeks out of the office total. Im a desk jockey, so not too strenuous, but it was tricky opening doors and reaching for a teacup! Driving was uncomfortable too, even at 3wk, but once you get into it its ok.
Try not to worry yourself, you don't want to go making yourself sick in the run up! At the end of the day, its your body, and how much you share is up to you. Though a lot of girls go with back problems as a catchall, covers the limited movement etc!

Re: Work after ba
Just had an iffy moment with my boss today, I asked for the day off for my final appt before surgery and I was told because I have training that day I couldn't have it, so said I just needed to leave for 3 and my boss asked was it a hospital appt, so I said yes. Feel awful now - I don't like to mislead people - she was trying to help me out. I don't really want to tell her either, I like my boss but gossip travels fast in my office!

Stick to your guns, just because you have a good relationship with your boss, doesn't mean she needs to know all your personal business. You could have a hosp appt for multiple reasons and just because it's an elective ba doesn't mean you're not entitled to medical leave! I bet she probably thinks you're pregnant!!!! If she digs just say it's a bit embarrassing and she'll assume a gyne problem!

Re: Work after ba
I had 10 days off work and then returned just being careful about what I was doing. Due to the nature of my work I was on self inflicted restricted duties but now after agreed with PS ok to return.
Work have been very accommodating and I was very open with them which I think helped me but if you don't want to tell them then don't!

Re: Work after ba
I had 2 weeks holiday from work after that with my job sometimes being quite physical my GP was kind enough to give me a line for lighter duties for another couple of weeks, she put the reason as being pulled muscle , she wasn't entirely lying just didn't say that the muscle had been pulled to put implants under them. Re: Work after ba
Thanks all. I have two weeks off so hoping I'll be ok! Will just have to take it easy once back I guess. Im still undecided on whether to tell my boss why im going to be off or not! I only will if I feel it will work in my favour!! ie restricted duties when back etc x
