It is inconvenient but you don't worry too much about it at the time, obviously it'd be perfect not to be. Don't worry though. x

I think I'm going to be on mine too - *sigh* although with coming off my contraceptive patches a few weeks ago it messes my cycle around by a week or two so not entirely sure yet, will go prepared just in case :) xx

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
Babe, I was on my period during my op! I came on the day before and unfortunately my periods are very, very heavy! I only have my oeriod for 2 or 3 days but I basically have the heaviest of heaviest of flows because of the short duration hahaha! I wore a tampon until about half an hour before my op and then the nurse said I would have to change it for a pad. So I wore a pad and then went down to surgery. After I'd woken up from surgery I needed the toilet and when I got up off my bed I'd leaked all over the bed!! It was so embarrassing! I had to tell the nurse and sincerely apologised for making such a mess haha :(
Don't worry, babe, the nurse told me that a lot of girls are on their period during surgery because of the nervousness and worries of the op!
You'll be fine :) Just take enough pads for the day of the op! :)
Take care xxxxx

I had laparoscopy few years back and was on during it- had heavy periods too (before the god send mirena coil!). Yep they will let you have pads but not the tampons... With paper panties- very uncool but remember the nurses and surgeons have seen it all :)

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
It can take a year for your body to adjust to it- worth a wait. My periods sometimes last over a week but it's so light I can cope with panty liner these days. Your periods may stop completely after a year too .. Mine are now regular like clockwork +-1 day but I don't have the heavy periods I had and the pain is very minimal compared to the ones I had before x

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
I thought about getting a coil in but I'm petrified it will hurt. I don't know why but even when I have a smear they make me bleed so I tried the patches to help my periods but they are useless too... How were you girls getting the coil in?

The coil is inserted by your doctor and you on the day you may feel period like cramps- that's all :) It lasts 5 years

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
I had a coil fitted and found it no worse than having a smear. I bleed every time I have a smear test too. I have children but all by c section. Coil is the best form of contraceptive I have ever used and I wish I'd done it years ago.

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
I had 2 kids naturally as well... both without any pain med and my youngest I decided to have at home :)... for some reason though I still bleed with smears, checks /whatever... I want a long lasting something or other.. I don't intend on more kids in the next few yrs at least.. and my periods drive me crazy.. 2yrs on from having my son and they ar still pretty irregular.. can be quite heavy... not one for getting cramps and pain though...
I guess I need to go talk to my dr some more then :D Thanks girls :D xxx

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
Tink my mum was the same she told me a while ago when I thought about the coil originally. They couldn't get it in, EVENTUALLY they did and then after 8yrs or so had it removed as she no longer has periods now so no need for it.
I don't think I could handle the pain if it didn't go in right :/
I am now probably guaranteed my period as they last 5 days usually.. and today was the day to start ofc :P
Just another thing to think about at the moment :P
on the other hand, I bought a load of books to get through when I'm recovering in bed :D Becoming obsessed with James Patterson as of late :D xx

Re: Was anyone having their period during surgery??
I've had the mirena coil and it's amazing I barely ever had periods and was fine to put in just a little uncomfortable! I've had 2 babies though so they say it's easier as the cervix has been opened xx
