Pain Advice
Hi Girls, needing a bit of advice today please - I'm day 5 today post op and I've been doing really well up until this morning. After I got up and pottered about I suddenly got an excruciating pain in my left boob, kind of near the scar area I think. I'm wearing a 34 Macom, pre ba measured 32 back. I've had a lot of swelling around my sides and it does seem to have gone down a bit from there but still swollen around boobage area. I only have 1 other bra which is an old maternity one a 34 back, which I was planning on wearing only for a couple of hours till I get my Macom washed and dryed, I was planning on buying the M&S pack of 2 once most of the swelling has gone down as I don't want to end up buying a bigger cup size just now and then not be able to use it once healed, really trying to avoid wasting money.
Can this pain be caused by my Macom now being too loose as I got my hubby to put a safety pin in it and the pain seems to have eased (aw bless me with my wee safety pin).
But then I was thinking some girls are told not to wear bras and not heard of anyone in a lot of pain from this.
What do you think girls?
Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read this and offer advice.x

Re: Pain Advice
The pain won't be by the bra, it could be the way you got up you just pulled something , often we all get a sharp pain because of this, but you won't have done any damage... If the majority of your swelling had gone down then you will want to get back into your normal band size for the support.
Yes some women are told not to wear a bra but you have so they need to be supported :)
Aches are normally that they are not supported enough... The sharp pain you describe is different but happens a lot when you pull a stitch for example when moving awkwardly xx

Re: Pain Advice
Aw Jen mwah, thanks so much hun, I was so sore and I was struggling to walk about then it went after a couple of mins of tightening the bottom of my Macom with a safety pin.
So do you think I should go get a 32 band? I can't justify buying another Macom and don't want to spend too much in case they don't fit again in another week when swelling goes down. Oh the Macom's been just perfect until today.x

Re: Pain Advice
Yes if swelling has gone down then get another sports bra in your normal band size as you will want that support to prevent aching... You don't need another Macom if you don't want but you could possibly put your one up to sell under our 'grab a bargain' section if you like...
So yes don't worry about the sharp pain, just take care and take things slowly as it is a shock! Xx

Re: Pain Advice
You may have pulled something Hun, or just over stretched, however, your boobs need to be properly and securely supported so getting a new bra is important to give them the high impact correct support.
Yes other ladies have the no bra advise but if yours is to remain in a sports bra 24:7 they need to be supported in a high impact sports bra.

totally agree
Never ver compare your post-op instruction to other women's hun. Their post-op instruction is based on their surgery and their surgeons opinion on what will help them get the best result 'for them'
generally those that are told to wear no bra have very tight muscles, or skin and their surgeon doesn't feel a bra would be of any assistance to 'their' healing.
Youve been told to wear a bra because it would be of assistance 'for you'. You NEED the support to help 'you' get the best result from 'your' surgery babe.
as for your bras now being loose... They really do need replacing hun. ALL of your support from a bra comes from the band, so if that's loose...
You may as well not be wearing anything.
The he sharp pain does sound as mrsball suggested, like you've over stretched Louise and the help of a good support bra will help that to heal.
If you feel up to it tomorrow, maybe go go to M&S and try some bras on ('high impact' or the front fastener)
If you think you still have some swelling there then buying a back fastener would be best. Infact I always recommend buying back fasteners in addition to those wanting to buy Macoms because this loose band after the swelling reduces really seems to be a common problem. I have so many women contact me about the same.
when buying a back fastener if you fit it so the very end hook just fastens, so its very snug, just being able to get two fingers under the band.... Then as the swelling reduces, you have 3 sets of hooks of the band, you can take it to the middle hook and when its settled down, take it to the hooks farthest away so it remains giving you full support babe. Re: Pain Advice
Thanks girls, my hubby just took me to Asda as live so far from nearest m&s, I've taken a total tantrum, lol,the kids were with us and they were so naughty in the shop and they never had anything in a 32 band so went to Tesco they had 1 32dd and I tried it on in shop and it didn't feel comfy I bought it anyway, coz kids were stressing me and thought I'll try it on properly at home. It feels a little bit tight on band but so uncomfy round boob area, it's going back tomorrow.
I think with the Macom having so much give round the boob area it's hard to adjust to the back fastener.
I'm back in my Macom with the safety pin, the pain pretty much went when I put the safety pin in.
I'm going to have to try get to m&S tomorrow.x

Re: Pain Advice
Hope you find what you need there hun.
I think if you're used to front fasteners then their zipped front fastener may be your best option.
I have used these myself and LOVE them. Still wear them for bed now. Xx

Re: Pain Advice
Thanks Cookie, I'm in such a sulk today, I'm going to run with your advice and get a 32 band with the back extenders so I can make it looser until all swelling goes, then not wasting money. Lol how can I be so tight in buying a proper sportsbra to fit the expensive boobs I've just bought myself, Prettylil's got loads, lol if I was same size as her I'd pinch hers, lol.x

Re: Pain Advice
Awwww it can get bloody pricey. Especially with women needing to buy new bras as swelling reduces.
If every woman came on here and sold their unused bras on it would be great wouldn't it.
I think I'll make a post about it for you all
There's really no need to buy more than what's essential though. If you're buying back fasteners make sure they feel snug so you can get only two fingers under the band. It'll feel tight, but not sore and the fastening (hooks) should be on the very last ones (the ones on the very end) this helps because as your swelling reduces you can just go down in size using the hooks from middle to end and if you need to use an expander also, use the same technique, ensure the band is tight, but not uncomfortable and only able to get those 2 fingers underneath.
Once you have that you know your boobs are going to be supported. Xx

Re: Pain Advice
It would be fab, I totally recommend all girls to sell them on, I'm going to put my macom on here when I get a replacement as it's such a waste.
Oh I'm such a whingebag today, I should be super excited as me & my new boobs have a hot date tonight with X factor final on telly.x

Re: Pain Advice
That's what my hubby said, I think I'd been so focused and ready for them coming day 3 or 4 and woke up feeling smug this morning that I'd got to day 5 and then BOOM they got me!
My little girl's been so cute today singing her own version of Rudolph all day, but I've just found it really irritating, when normally I'd have the phone videoing her sending it to my Mum.
Roll on tomorrow.x

Re: Pain Advice
I just logged on to post my Macom for sale and saw this post..
I had horrendous pain & swelling - & for me (everyone's different) - it turned out to be because the post-op bra I had been given by my PS, didn't fit me properly around the band.
I measure 29" & the small just wasn't small enough.
After my 1 week check-up my nurse advised me to massage the swelling (yellow & bruised & if you push a finger it leaves an indent for a few seconds) - 2-3 times a day AND to get fitted for a sports bra. Advise had been wear a bra 24 hrs a day..
The moment I got the sports bra (Triumph TriAction) I had immediate relief. It was the badly fitting post-op bra that offered no support that had me in so much pain
Anyway. I ordered a Macom that day, it came the next day & I only wish I'd had it the day of my surgery. It fit (sml) & I wore it at night for the next month religiously.
I now sleep without a bra. My PS advice was that all women should wear a bra for support at night - but if I chose not to that was fine.
