Pain Management Advice Please!!
Hello everyone.
It's Day 3 for me and i'm finding the pain of stretching etc. getting worse.
I am still on Co-codamol every 4 hours but i'm finding that this is merely taking the edge off the pain i'm suffering. Sleep isn't great either, awake every 2 hours. It's just like having a newborn baby again, but with pain during the night!!
I thought I had a high threshold but find my BA so far more painful than childbirth (I was a hypnobirth mum).
Any advice would be so welcome right now!!!! Is there anything else I can take or anything I can do. I tried the frozen peas which didn't really help.

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
Hi Jane, sorry to hear you're feeling so sore Are you taking arnica? It's not too late if you're not and will help get the bruising out quicker. Also being as mobile as you can i think helps. I did find i got some relief with cold packs, something like 20 mins on/off. I was actually ok on day 3 but have read loads that days 2,3,4 can be the worst but you'll turn the corner and get better each day! Have you got lots of pillows to support you at night?
Hang in there this horrible bit will soon pass and you'll be enjoying those new

Ice packs do wonders! Just make sure you're keeping on top of your meds.

Sorry to hear you are in pain. I found the first 2 weeks quite painful but does get better each day.
Try taking some ibuprofen or voltarol with your co-codamol. They are anti inflammatories so help with the swelling as well as the pain.

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
Hi Hun,
I definitely found the first week the most painful, in particular the first few days I could barely move my top half. You will find it very quickly improves. I couldn't take the co-codomol without feeling sick so I took paracetamol, Ibuprofen, used Ice packs and also found it helped walking about. If I sat down I got stiff!
Hope the pain goes down soon. I was the same, very easy births 3 times round and yet on day 2 post BA I sooo much pain! I promise it doesn't last long hun xxx

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
Hiya, I would second (third? fourth?!) the ibubrofen. It's an anti-inflammatory that you really need for surgical pain. Check with your surgeon though before you take it that he or she is happy as there is an increased risk of bleeding and/or clotting problems. My surgeon said ok but only after 48 hours.
In my experience as a surgical nurse, days 2-5 are likely to be the most painful, and after that swelling has peaked and it's all downhill. That was certainly the case for me, although everyone's different. I had 3 drug free labours too - the BA was far worse! The difficult first part goes so quickly though, and soon you'll be back to your normal self.
Hope this helps xxxxxxx

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
Thank you girlies.
You really helped me out here.
I am taking arnica and certainly will keep doing so now.
The ice packs didn't seem to help so my husband spoke to a doctor and he collected some stronger painkillers for me this am- Tremadol and they are brilliant!! They do make me very drowsy but at least i can rest properly now and I can also take those anti-immflammatories that you all mentioned too. (can't spell when i'm so drowsy ha ha!!).
Definitely feel more upbeat thanks to you guys xxx

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
glad you got sorted!!! the pain really is the worst - but I definitely second the idea to get up and walk around (gently) getting circulation helps SO much. Even though you'll be hobbling like an 80 year old

Re: Pain Management Advice Please!!
Yes the Tremadol certainly spaces me out!!! I am being careful with them and not taking too many because of this.
Alexandra- I agree, I am normally a busy body so find it hard to sit around. Probably doing too much also.
SparklyLeeds- Glad you're feeling better in yourself. Fingers crossed we'll all be settled by Christmas xxx
