Re: overcoming nerves
I think I've been on elf the strange ones. I didn't have any nerves at all. I was only worried about my dignity with the gown and paper pants.
It sounds a bit silly but can you talk yourself into being embarrassed rather than scared. Just focus on the little things and chat away with the nurses till you drop off. Let them worry about the surgery. You will be fine Hun.
I'm sitting here 5 hours post op and its the 3rd best decision I've ever made. Having my daughter and gettin married being the top 2.
You derserve to love your body don't let nerves stop you x

Re: overcoming nerves
Oh no, poor you x
You can honestly overcome anything if you are determined enough, I would focus on the fact that this is something you really, really want.
You could possibly try hypnotism if you are open to the thought of it. Good luck for October, you can do it x

Re: overcoming nerves
I remember when I had a G.A when I was having my wisdom teeth out, I hate anything to do with teeth.... They gave me a sedative before taking me down to theatre and I was fine.... They could've chopped my head off and I wouldn't have cared......... They can do so much now...... Xx

Awwww Adele, I do remember you
To come back now Adele speaks volumes hun - you're so much stronger and ready for this op - this IS your time
You know exactly what to expect now hun, so there's no going in there blind this time babe. There's nothing to having a general anaesthetic Adele, but I know thats alright for 'me' to say. But if I can say one good thing about myself Adele its the fact that I'm honest. You will get from me all the warts and all from my posts and there's anything bad I thing you should know Adele... id tell you, but from having a GA...there are no warts hun.
You go into the theatre room, led by a lovely nurse, you'll have a cannula put into your hand which you'll feel only a scratch, but you'll be chatting away to the medical team that you won't even notice it. The next thing you'll know is you'll wake up to having boobs.
Its that quick
Its that uneventful
Its literally a blink away from having your boobs Adele.
You ARE strong babe and you CAN do this.
When you go back to see your surgeon, maybe focus more on the GA and discuss this further hun. There is another option called 'twilight surgery' this is becoming increasingly common now for women who do have a fear of a GA. its an anaesthetic that doesn't put you to sleep at all, but you're so dopey from the aneasthetic that that you feel nothing, you'll know about nothing and you will remember nothing from the op.
Its just something you might want to research for yourself Adele before November so you've covered both options.
But whatever you decide on lovely... We're here for you

Re: overcoming nerves
Nice to see you back Adele. Hope things are going ok for you.
All u can do is relax. You know exactly what to expect this time round so that should help at least. When it's time to be put under GA just talk absolute mince to the anaesthesist they'll be used to it.
Good luck when it comes x

Re: overcoming nerves
It's definitely a great idea to do plenty of research on GAs-if you know what you are letting yourself in for it might empower you and make you feel more positive about the whole experience.
Although saying that I've always wanted a butterfly tattoo on my ankle... Finally made an appointment to get it done last year, kids looked after, money in hand... As he picked up the needle after drawing it on I was already out the door and running to my car lol. I haven't been back since but deep down i know i don't really want a tattoo yet so it was the best decision for me at the time xxx

Re: overcoming nerves
The only thing I can suggest is focussing on the outcome, and it's just a bridge you cross to get there.. Id do it all again in a heartbeat as it really has been the best thing I've ever done and I can assure you you'd feel the same!
Good luck with everything hunny, x

Re: overcoming nerves
hey hun! I was seriously nervous about my surgery.. I actually threw up with anxiety and I can honestly say I laughed at the commotion I caused before hand. I found the most important thing was trust in my surgeon. I knew he was a fab surgeon and would look after me so that really kept me strong. I also tried to imagine how I would feel if I didn't go ahead with my surgery... how gutted I would be when I wanted to wear a nice dress, how upset id be everytime I would have to buy ANOTHER triple padded bra and how annoyed I would be on holiday feeling self conscious for yet another year in my bikini!
Like the girls say, focus on the outcome not the procedure! it really is mind over matter. When I got onto the surgery bed I just lay and closed my eyes while they did what they had to do. they also let my mum come into theatre with me to hold my hand while they gave me the GA... so definitely something worth asking your surgeon about! xxxx

Re: overcoming nerves
Awww I'm sorry to hear you couldn't go through with it the first time. This time I would suggest you ask your PS to prescribe you some kind of pre-med such as diazepam to relax you. He must know how nervous you are, what has he suggested?
I don't know if reading up on the surgery and GA will always help - I've worked in theatres before (anaesthetics, scrub and recovery) and it doesn't do much to make me feel less nervous before surgery, even if I know exactly what they're doing, what equipment they're using, what drugs etc but it may help some people. Go with your gut instinct.
What are you really scared about? Is it the GA or the surgery or the recovery? If its the actual 'going under' see if you can have a relative/ friend with you when you go under anaesthetic. The surgery is nothing to worry about because you'll be under anyway and recovery is all worth it because you will have big boobies!! Good luck x
