Holiday & BA
I head off to sunny south of france at the end of the month.. At this stahe I will be 12 weekd post op. my surgeon gave me the all clear to treat my boobs as normal but im so worried about getting an infection from the pool! If i was to wear the micropore over my scars & under my bikini would this help reduce the risk of infection?? Has anyone caught an infection from conmunal pools/beaches?
Thanks girls

Re: Holiday & BA
Hi G. At 12 weeks, your scars should be fully closed and healed, so there shouldnt be any risk of infection whatsoever. But if you're feeling nervous or worried, theres no harm putting a bit of micropore on.

Re: Holiday & BA
Hey g- I've got exactly same situation as you, I'm going away at 9 weeks post op to fuerteventura- i asked my surgeon months ago as holiday was booked in advance and he said this will be fine, don't get scars in the sun, use high factor on chest and as long as scars healed then pool ok but I'm still worried about the risk of an infection as I worry about everything going!
I think there's no harm on putting on the tape if it gives you a bit more reassurance :)
Bet you can't wait for first boobie holiday, hope you have a lovely time! Xx

Re: Holiday & BA
I am so excited for my first holiday without feeling self conscious and like an 11 year old boy! Some nice weather will be fab too. I bet you can't wait for your holiday? I have heard loads of great things about Fuerteventura!
I also said to my surgeon about my holi weeks before my surgery and he said at 4 weeks post op I was fine to treat boobs as my own. He also said to keep scars well covered and use a high factor.. so I bought some factor 50 and bought bikinis with a thicker band to completely cover my scars - Hollister had a good sale on some nice bikinis :)
I think I will use the micropore just for extra protection for my scars.. as you say, it won't do any harm! :)
Can't believe how far along we both are now! feels like yesterday we were all so nervous and counting down the days to our big day xxx

Re: Holiday & BA
I feel exactly the same! It's great to finally be able to fill a bikini and not have to worry about padding anymore! Ive brought factor 50 for my chest to be extra careful as I don't want to burn there and my scars will be well covered. I don't have any microphore but think its well worth you packing some :)
This will be my first time to Canary Islands, I can't wait to get away, last holiday was to New York and got caught up in hurricane sandy the whole time! Where abouts in France are you going?
I can't believe how quick its all gone either! Xx

Re: Holiday & BA
I couldn't agree more! Before my BA I looked for the most padded bikinis I could find so its nice to look at some nice bikinis :)
Im sure that was scary when you were in New York!! I am heading to Nice - in the South of France. I went a few years back and it was beautiful.. Beaches were fab! :) So I can't wait.
Have you had any additional check ups hun? :) xx

Re: Holiday & BA
You'll be just fine babe.
I would say that you just check every morning that that there's no 'spitting stitches'
Spitting stitches are stitches that can work their way up to the top of the skin and make an opening, this can happen with dissolvable stitches months after surgery. Its nothing to be concerned about and as long as the tissue surrounding the stitch all looks fine its OK to leave it, it may fall out on its own, if it doesnt it may need snipping when you get home by your clinic nurse, but if you do get one I wouldn't go in the pool or the sea at all because the opening it causing does give an avenue for infection.
If you do have a spitting stitch and its red, swollen or there's any pus at all coming away with the stitch, then you may need to get a doctor to snip the stitch for you.
There's no need at all to put micropore on your incisions. Its not waterproof so would be of no help at all babe.
As G has said above also though, its VERY important to keep your incisions well covered when on holiday due to the risk of pigmentation (scars going brown) xx

Re: Holiday & BA
Thanks Cookie! Can always rely on you for some good advice! When I went back to my surgeon with my size concerns he had to snip a slitting stitch so I will definitely keep my eye open for them.
Would the micropore help protect the scars from the sun? I will still be wearing suncream and my thicker banded bikinis too...

Re: Holiday & BA
A high factor sun cream (don't put this on if you have a spitting stitch) and the thick band bikini is all you need babe. The scars will be protected and well covered. Its up to you if you want to apply the micropore as well, but I don't think its necessary babe.xx

Re: Holiday & BA
Micropore over the scars will help. Also, make sure you cover your boobs and chest area x
