Re: Alcohol before surgery
Mine doesn't mention garlic but it is defo to do with thinning the blood. The same rules apply for 2 weeks after I think?

You're actually a willing party having 'elective' surgery and the things requested from you are to help lessen the risks that can happen whilst having surgery. We're in a privileged position that we ARE able to lessen the risks and in my personal opinion babe, it would be foolish not to when unlike those having an 'emergency' procedure..... without surgery... they might die. They have no choice in reducing risk. Xx
Re: Alcohol before surgery
Oh god, def important and have no intention of going against their rules but what a shame it is. But that just means that we can go wild with those missed items once we are outta the danger zone lol. We'll probs be sick of those items afterwards coz I for one will put garlic with everything I intend to eat haha. To ward off Vampires of course!

I have three weeks to gorge on garlic, alcohol and take aspirins whenever required. What an eventful couple of weeks I have coming up in regards to my diet lol!

Re: Alcohol before surgery
i do agree that as we know we are having surgery we do all we can to minimise the risks, but it does just seem when researching it there are differing opinions from surgeons - some say if you are a social drinker i.e odd glass of wine you are fine right up to surgery , others say a week, some say 2 weeks....just seems strange that i have not been told anything with 2 weeks to go, and am with a baaps surgeon at a bmi clinic so would have thought i would have been told if it was a 2 week rule. don't get me wrong i am not encouraging anyone to do anything against the advice they have been given, but just wanted to reassure those who have not already been told this and have had alcohol that not to worry too much about it

I know what you mean Jodi
If you're unsure what YOUR surgeon would like from you then it would be best to contact your clinic and ask for that pre-op advise babe. Xx

Re: Alcohol before surgery
I have done :) i have my pre-op a week on wednesday - but that is exactly 1 week before surgery day, so i have left them a message to call me so that i can ask the question this week, in case they do advise a 2 week abstinence. been ill with flu the weekend so not touched a drop since last thursday so i will be uber clean at this rate! its our wedding anniversary today though, so will treat myself to glass of bubbles of 2 tonight...gt it in there before wednesday ;)

Re: Alcohol before surgery
Give it at least a week Jo. The last thing you need is problems with the blood thinning whilst you're healing and that first week is crucial for healing babe.

Re: Alcohol before surgery
That does seem strange to have varrying views with diff surgeons. All i can say is go by what your own surgeon has said.
