Alcohol before surgery
My paperwork says "in the 14 days prior to surgery DO NOT consume alcohol or take asprin"
I understand the asprin part as it thins your blood but what's the reason for the alcohol?
I don't normally drink in the house but when I can't have something I want it more, would it be that bad if I just had 1 alcoholic drink tonight?

Oh god well I'm 7 days and not seen this in any notes, will be checking now! I had 3 glasses last night ( v reserved for me) I am naturally taking it easy as don't want to get ill but may refrain from opening a bottle tonight now.

I'm going to a festival the weekend before mine! My pre op is not until 7 days before, I would have thought if it was essential they would have told me before now?!

I think every clinic/surgeon offers different advice Hun.
I also cannot eat Chinese food for 14 days after the op, but when posted on here about it no one else had been given that advice x
The information pack came out to me In the post along with my confirmation of surgery date xx

Re: Alcohol before surgery
I laid off the wine tonight as seemed silly drinking at home when better not to! But if had arranged to go out may have felt differently. I had my blow out last weekend as thought be nice to have a relatively healthy weekend before, but have had wine last night, but not going to dwell on this!
No Chinese food? Reckon that says it all about Chinese food, the amount of crap in it!! Xx

Re: Alcohol before surgery
Yes it does, I think it's the MSG in it that causes problems.
I was at a funeral yesterday and needed a drink after that so i had a pint and half of lager, oops.
I was invited out on a team night out from work tonight and said no because I couldn't drink and didn't want to be sober while they were all wasted lol, I really fancy a glass of wine but I'm not going to bother x

Re: Alcohol before surgery
I know we all want to make best prep for our ops but don't forget many people will be operated on in an emergency and wouldn't have not been drinking. So whilst Defo I think don't over do it, the odd one shouldn't do to much harm I would have thought?

No alcohol for 14 days pre-op, this is important as it's a blood thinner. x

I think u right jodioc, u just don't want to be getting plastered in the run up but the odd one can't hurt. Although I need a break from the booze so is a welcome opportunity! I do love wine :-/ xxxx

Re: Alcohol before surgery
I'm going to completely lay off it now, I'm a hypochondriac at the best of times and will be stressing for the next 11 days if I touch anymore x

Re: Alcohol before surgery
Glad it's not just me Jesber, I'm going to dig out my paperwork in a min and have another check in case I've missed anything else I shouldn't be doing. I know it says no garlic in there too as specialkj said although I've had garlic bread with my tea
