Recovery from partial unders - hair washing?? Empty Recovery from partial unders - hair washing??

Post by Tonic28 17th June 2009, 5:53 am

:allo: girls - Im just thinking about how Im going to wash hair and dry it after BA. Ive naturally quite curly hair and its jut wiiiiild if I don't dry and straighten it! But surely using the hair dryer is going to hurt or pull on the scar underneath??

Just thinking of booking into a salon for bit of pampering lol in my local town rather than my normal salon 7 miles away and having it washed and styed?? But then thought is it going to be worse to attempt to sit from that lying/reclining position they put u in with your head back into the sink? Will have to get booked in if after your advice feel the pampered treatment is best......thanks girls xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi,

I'm the same - I had my ba with partial unders on a Monday and by Thursday managed to wash my hair over the bath dry and straighten it! It was uncomfortable and I couldn'y move my arms as much as normmal but it is do-able. I think I would prefer to do that than go to the salon! The first week after my op I just wanted to be at home and not really go out - but everyone is different! Good luck

I got my OH to help me wash my hair the first week and I did the reclining position over the sink, but it was still very uncomfortable since it wasnt a proper salon sink, plus soap in eyes (I think it was the first time washing someone's hair for him)etc.

If you feel up for going to the salon I would go, you should be able to wash your hair yourself by the end of the second week xx

I was able to wash my hair over the side of the bath by my 5th day post op. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I gave up with the hair dryer as it was putting too my strain on my arm!

If you've got someone to help you you'll be fine, but otherwise i'd book a hair appointment, it'd be nice to feel pampered too!xxx

mmmm that's wot I was thinking rosannamay any excuse for bit of pampering - but it was the hairdryer I was concerned most about as they're heavy and you pull your hair while drying don't u - mine's wavy so have to tug lol. Thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I had full unders..not sure if it would be much different!! But, no way could I wash my hair untill 10 days...even then drying was uncomfortable and tiring. I tried over the bath and sink....boobs got in the way Hysterical I used dry shamppo

Smelly days are the worst  I went to hairdressers at two weeks. Looking back, it is worth it, but, it was the worst part of the process for me ....lack of normal daily washing routine.

However the first proper shower and hair wash, is sheer bliss....I think I will remember for ever....things we take soo much for granted.

Blush Owww lovely so Im in for a smelly ol' time in this summer heat lol.

I will make sure I make a hair appt some time next week for wash and blow dry as sounds the easiest and probably safest option so not to wet scars and oover stretch them. And will just shallow bath and use baby wipes!!

Thanks for all yr replies girls Im getting soooo excited now but also tired as not sleeping properly waking bout 4.30-5am and loggin on to here whilst munching cereal! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

ps any other tips gratefully received xxxx Flash

Yeah, if you've got help to wash your hair etc it's handy, but don't expect a proper job! I think a trip to the salon would be best.

And try and get as much sleep aas possible. Try having hot milk with a tablespoon of honey mixed in 10 mind before you go to bed, always sends me off to sleep!
