Post by Ella88 15th July 2014, 7:26 am

Had my op on Friday, and was going to go to the hairdressers today to get my hair washed and set , do you think I'll be okay for leaning back in the chair and everything or am I better washing over the bath at home?

I did it, was fine. Hubs had to help me back into a sitting position, but that's mostly coz my core is awful! It was lovely having my hair scrubbed by someone else!

As long as you are comfortable enough in that position you will be fine to go to hairdressers, it's fab to get your hair done and feel human again! ..lol XXX

If your inscisions aren't fully healed it's not advisable to be submerging them but you can have a nice soak in the bath with the water below inscisions . XXX

I couldn't imagine going to the hairdressers at that stage. I knelt in a shallow bath, out my hard forward and my mum washed it. The plan was to go though, I wanted to, but noway could I manage it xx

Oldhams, had my 2 weeks check yesterday and got the all clear for a shower...which I don't have :( and she said no baths for 8 weeks!!! 8 looooooong weeks. Xx

I couldn't imagine leaning back by a hairdresser's basin that early, definitely a head over the bath job.. Oldham, it's usually 12 weeks until you can have a proper bath x

Hair Washing Empty Re: Hair Washing

Post by Charlii 15th July 2014, 2:16 pm

I did tell the gal washing my hair I'd had it done, they angled me more upright and used a lot of towels to keep me dry! No way I could have trusted hubs to do a proper job!

It's normally 12wk before you can submerge your scars like princess says. This is because water is a breeding ground for bacteria, so they have to be 100% healed. You can have a waist deep bath. If you do get your scars wet once you've the all clear for showers, a cool hairdryer on them will ensure they're properly dry.

I went to the hairdressers and had my hair washed & blow dried 3 days after my op and didn't find it a problem at all but then I had been doing lots of core exercises a few months before so perhaps that helped. In fact in lovely being pampered a little after feeling grotty for a couple of days.

Thanks girls! Sorry for the slow reply...ended up going to the hairdresser yesterday - took 2 codeine and 2 paracetamol before going and was absolutely fine pain wise. Feeling soooo much better for having clean hair haha! Felt absolutely exhausted afterwards though and spent the rest of the day sleeping, so wonder if it might have been a bit ambitious!

If you're up to it, I'd recommend it hun! I washed my hair the night before my op on Friday, by yesterday it felt GRIM. Was so nice getting out of the house, being pampered and feeling clean again! X
