Recovery time for partial unders? - please help! Empty Recovery time for partial unders? - please help!

Post by Chanhassen 1st June 2011, 7:45 am

Hi ladies,

I'm new here & have been busy reading everything on here for the last few days! It seems like you ladies know everything about this topic & give some pretty brillilant advice, so i was wondering whether someone can help me?!

I've got my BA booked for 3 weeks time & I'm just a little concerned about how long it will take to recover afterwards. I'm having partial unders (either 210cc or 260cc - not decided yet). I have 2 children (4yo & 2yo), the eldest is at school & very independent but my little one is still at home with me. She doesn't need lifting so much as 'restraining'! I.e. Stopping her run out into road etc!

I will have help from my hubby & parents for the first 2 weeks but will be alone after then (hubby is going overseas). Will I be able to cope 2 weeks PO? I have close friends nearby that I can call on if necessary but obviously, I'd rather not have to ask.

How much pain will I be in? Will I be able to deal with 2 children after 2 weeks? Am I mad?!! I would so appreciate any replies from those who have been through this already...

hi chan, you will be fine!
i had partials and i didnt experience any pain if im truthfull! but thats just me. Im sure you will fel great, youve had children too, so youy will be better at this then i was!
i was up and walking about straight after surgery...i was working by day 5 no problem! As for the little one who runs into the road, keep those doors locked! and mayb av a little word with her, say mummy isnt well so u need to help look sfter me, if u giv her that sense of responsibiliy, she will prob relish it and come over all protective of u! my niece is like this, she is four, how old is your daughter? i hope that works with you, may make her on her best behaviour!
im sure things will be fine tho!!
sorry i cant offer much more advice! Hug

Hi Jen,

Thank you for replying so soon. I'm sat here with my mind racing wondering if I'm doing the right thing or not! Unfortunately my 2 year old is still at the stage where running away from mummy is much more fun than doing what she is told, if she was nearer to 3 then it would be easier. At least my 4yo will be around to help me & keep her sister entertained - she loves playing 'mummy'!

We are due to go on holiday 7 weeks PO, would you have felt like it by then?

Thanks again,
Chan

Oh that's so good to hear! I'm just trying to cover all my bases & make sure I am as prepared as possible...would really suck if my holiday was affected!

We're off to Florida - week in Disneyland, then a week in Palm Beach to relax after all the Disney craziness! The girls are so excited!

My fiance is taking a wk off work (hopefully!) but I'm going to find it hard fightin them off and telling them I can't pick them up! Post by Blueeyedsoul13 26th February 2013, 8:09 pm

hi everyone,

i realise this is an oold thread but didn't want to start a new one as there are already so many on recovery.

i had a consultation with a pcc at mya yesterday, and she said they mostly do day cases unless for some reason i would prefer to stay overnight.

she then went on to say i should have someone take me home and stay with me for the first couple of days etc, but i don't have anyone to do either.

as i live in london i don't know anyone with a car, we all just tube it!
i know some clinics offer transport which would be really good for me as i'm doing all this alone, so that's the first thing. not really keen on a taxi either as they all drive horrendously and have read from other girls that driving over bumps is quite painful with fresh boobies!

and then the second thing is that i definitely don't have anyone to just stay with me for the first few days. my friends and housemates all have busy work schedules, so really i was just planning to recover on my own. of course i would make sure beforehand that my fridge is filled, my bedroom is all set up and everything i need is within reach etc.

i'd love to know what your thoughts are on this? can i recover on my own?

i was thinking of having an overnight stay so i can make sure i'm okay before i go home, and i would be having unders. (i know i keep saying 'would', but i'm seeing surgeons and am 95% sure i'm going through with it. its just sooo much money it scares me a bit!!)

thanks girls x

Do Mya have their own transport service? that would probably be your best option. And you MUST have someone with you for a couple of days after coming home, the hospital etc will stress this, as you are recovering from surgery and also the GA x

Hey girls,

I'm am 5 weeks post op from having partial unders. I haven't got children however can offer some experience and advice for post op.

Chan - if you have kids then having help for 2 weeks after will be a god send trust me. You don't realise just how much you need help with afterwards especially if you have kids. Even getting in and out of bed, moving pillow to get comfy, getting dressed, washing, cooking, everything really as everything uses chest muscles. After about a week I felt so much better mainly because I was off my medication which made me feel spaced out plus my body was healing as I had not pushed myself by doing to much. If your little girl tends to run off then maybe just let your mum and husband take her out just in case she does do it that way your motherly instinct won't take over as you'll go to grab her and do yourself some steroids damage. Even after 2 weeks just be careful maybe get some of those rains so you don't go over stretching. Pain whys for me wasn't painful just uncomfortable and awkward but as long as you give yourself as much time to heal, not even cooking or house work then you'll give your body the best chance to heal.

Blue - I agree with princess you HAVE to have someone with you 48 hours afterwards, not only for safety but you'll need it. If you can stay at the hospital that night then do but it's not worth risking your health if you are going to be doing too much afterwards. I don't know what to suggest but would strongly recommend you get a friend to stay with you for a few nights minimum. As for taxi ride back that will def be a better option than tube, you will NOT want to be near people who may push into you again trust me on this one. I got a taxi and as long as you tell them and have a pillow with you you'll be ok.

Hope this helps ladies x x x

thanks ladies!

in that case i would have to have the op on a friday i think, so that a friend could spend the weekend with me, but i wouldn't be able to ask anyone to take time off for this.

still debating whether an overnight stay is necessary..
transform surgeon said overnight stay was preferred, and mya pcc said they normally do day cases.

what do you girls think, how out of it were you, if you had a day case, did you feel okay to come home when you did?

No, I'm glad I had an overnight stay. If anything were to go wrong after surgery and through the night.. the hospital is the place to be. Plus the nurses keep coming in in the night to do your pulse etc to check you're okay.. there's no way I could have had my op and then just shot off home x

that settles it, an overnight stay is a definite :)

it just feels more sensible, so i was surprised that mya suggest day cases as a norm!

I'm really surprised at that too! They woke me up at half 5/6 ahh so early.. and I had to be up and out of my room by 8am for the patients who were having op's that day. I could have done with staying there a little bit longer to be honest lol x

I was so tired at that time!! I was the last to leave out of all the other patients too, the new intake of patients were already waiting by reception to go to their rooms as I left. I thought it was too early to wake people and get them out by that time x
