Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi, I know exactly how u feel. I asked if I could have a double dose of GA as I have 'high tolerance' (that's what I thought) - the anaesthetists looked at me like I was nuts lol
I was afraid that I'll wake during the op, or feel it but them not knowing or not waking up at all. I listed these in this order to the anaesthetists and she was actually encouraging me to say them one by one. Then she reassured me that these are very common fears but extremely rarely happen.
Strangely I was laughing my head off as I was going under and as I was waking up. But really laughing before I could even open my eyes!! Best experience ever!!!

i'm terrified of flying and my OH would always say to me 'you're more
likely to die on the way to the airport than in the plane' and i was
like 'well now i'm scared of driving too!!'

it's the best day! you'll never want it to end :) i'd go back and do it in a flash, it was so lovely!!
you'll be fine xxx

this was my major fear!! but my anesthetist told me it's not routine to use paralysing agent for a straightforward BA. Looked at me like i was crazy for even thinking it haha !!

Re: terrified of the GA!
That film gives me nightmares!!! That's what scares me is the thought of having no control over my body! Does anyone know if Abbey pines give sedatives for people scared of GA? Lol x

They do. But you must make it clear from the first meeting with the nurse as soon as you're allocated your room that you would like a sedative babe - if you don't ask early enough there's no point in them giving it to you if your surgery is not long after you asking. Xx
Re: terrified of the GA!
GA is fine lovely, you'll be surprised at how well you can take it =] fortunately for me i've had it lots of times before so knew what to expected. You just feel it a bit cold in your hand and then next thing you're waking up! I woke up from mine and told them they had good taste in music cos i could hear a Will Young song in the background haha x
Re: terrified of the GA!
Hiya :) oh I had my surgery like 3 days ago and I am the biggest wimp when it comes to needles and surgery but I cried like a big girl when they put ye needles in but honestly I can't even look at needles on the tv or anything but when your in there ask for Emla cream for your hands to numb it and then you'll be fine you won't feel it. I didn feel a thing but I still cried the nurses and everyone are so sympathetical and they make u feel so safe I had this dream that I wouldn't wake up but I did and for them it's just another day at the office you'll be fine once your there it goes so fast u don't have time to worry xx

Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi I would definitely ask for the sedatative, as I am just ahead of u with surgery dates ill deffo keep you posted as to whether its effective or not worth bothering with! When my ps asked if I had any questions it was the only thing I asked - people keep saying so your having surgery which u have opted to have I thought u were scared of anaesthetic!! I keep saying I am!!! I am trying to put it to the back of my mind but it keeps re surfacing!!! I am having 410 overs what about u xxx

Ah that's reassuring. Ill probably mention it at my pre op on Tuesday anyway! Does the sedative have any lasting effect do you know? I'm just worrying about having a bit of a wobbler when it comes to the GA and if they could give me something to calm me I think it woul be really helpful. Do I just say I'm really anxious about being out to sleep is there any way I could have a sedative of some kind before I go down? Xxx

Re: terrified of the GA!
balamoryyellfruit - haha a wee bit of rihanna or beyonce would be nice to wake up to! Might put in a suggestion ;)
Jade43 - Thanks for the comment hun. I am exactly the same - terrified of anything that involves needles/blood or anything medical. How did you find ur surgery? I am definitely asking for that Emla cream or to be given sedatives as im scared I will end up freaking out and not going through with it! :(
Happy1day- That would be brilliant if you could keep me posted on that! I think the sedative might be the best option to calm my nerves! Do most clinics offer the sedation? Need to run it past my surgeon.. I hadnt really told him about my fear but I should probably slip it into conversation soon! I am having 300cc anatomical unders! :)

Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi, I just said I'm really scared of anaesthetic and she ran through all the statistics -funny thing is I work in a hospital and for a surgeon! But it doesn't matter how many people say don't worry you just do! My ps suggested the sedative and wrote it in my file not sure how it really works, might ask at work but will definitely keep you posted as to how I get on! Time is going by quite fast it will soon be our turn!!!

Re: terrified of the GA!
I'm not going to lie I hated every min of the surgery thoughts but I went in to finally get it done and with my Emla cream my hand were numb I still cried because of the thought of it but before I knew it I were awake but the thing that goes in my hand was a different story I'm so bad that I couldn't look at it after surgery but I were that out of it before I knew it I had had it out n on my way home it goes in a flash and it's not as bad as our brains make it xx
