terrified of the GA!
So I have my op booked for June 5th and very excited to have my new boobies for the summer! But I can't help but be terrified of the GA.. I hate needles, i am a little squeamish and in any other circumstance I would be running the opposite direction to any type of surgery! As silly as it sounds I'm scared of waking up during my Op or not waking up at all (after the horror stories I have read!)

Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi I totally understand how you feel, my surgery is booked for the 25th may and I am really scared of the anaesthetic. I have received some really lovely and reassuring comments which have put my mind at ease. It's the only thing really worrying me but I think it wil be worth it. I've already told my surgeon and she is going to give me a sedative before I go theatre! Your not alone with this fear but as I say I think it will be worth it xxxx

Re: terrified of the GA!
I felt the same. Especially when I got the info booklet about GA and in the side effects it says "being permanently paralysed", "waking up during the operation" and "death". I was like :|:|:|. The risk of those things happening is really tiny. x

Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi Happy1day,
Really appreciate the comment and nice to know i am not the only one feeling this way! My sister had surgery - she is also terrified of anything medical but says its a breeze but I suppose come June we will both be saying the same thing!
Oh really? I didnt actually know it was possible to have a sedative before - I will definitely run that past my surgeon... anything to calm my nerves on the day!! What implants/sizes are you having? :)

Re: terrified of the GA!
Hi,
My main worry was waking up but just being paralysed.. Very scary thought.
It was fine, so easy and relaxing on the day. Its such a rare occurrence that anything will happen and as losing as your surgeon , nurse etc are aware they will help you.
Trust me you will be fine xx

Hi Princess_x
Those are the very things that scare the life out of me! I suppose I just need to keep focussed on the end result!! xx
Thanks for the support Kenzie. I haven't told my surgeon as I didnt want him thinking I was being silly - going for surgery and my only concern being the GA! lol everything else I can deal with im just terrified that I will be too scared to get the needle.

Re: terrified of the GA!
Oh Hun xx when I booked my surgery I was terrified of having a GA, I've never had one before. But the nerves soon disappeared and excitement kicked in, and on the day everything was fine, I walked down to theatre with not a care in the world. I even said goodnight to the anestnatist. Have a read of some surgery stories, they should help put your mind at ease xx good luck on your boobie journey xx

Re: terrified of the GA!
It's normal to be scared about those things, they are frightening things! The needle is fine. It goes in and you feel a cold feeling running through your arm and down your throat and then that's it. Then you wake up confused x

Re: terrified of the GA!
Lisa - Thanks for ur comment, so nice to know Im not alone on this fear! Don't get me wrong, I am SO excited but the GA just wont leave the back of my mind. I had a wee look at surgery stories and cant wait to finally be able to write my own!! :) 5th June seems ages away but hopefully it flies in.
Princess_x - Thanks for the heads up! Do you know if the 'magic cream/numbing cream' makes any difference? I think I will need the sedation tablet before.. I would be very sqeaumish if they couldnt find my vein!! :(

Re: terrified of the GA!
You could ask about some gas and air? I'm sure I read somewhere someone used that to calm them down a bit before the needle? Or the numbing cream. Don't worry though, the risks are so low and medicine is advanced these days hun. Xx

Re: terrified of the GA!
My mums is a nurse and keeps telling me not to get too worked up on the GA but I cant help it! Im not sure if my clinic offers the gas and air but definitely all possibilities I will run past my surgeon. Happy1day also recommended the sedation tablets too. Anything which takes the edge off my GA fear would be fab!! I see your surgery is very soon - good luck!! :)

I'm not sure about the numbing cream.. for my 1st BA the needle hurt like hell but I think they were just rough, 2nd time around I didn't feel a thing, I have crap veins and they got mine first time. It's honestly so quick x

Re: terrified of the GA!
Fear of the GA is probably one of the most common pre-BA concerns we read here babe so you're definitely not alone
You may find this thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] helpful to read so you can see just how common this fear really is.... But we're all OK and we're all enjoying our boobies after

Re: terrified of the GA!
Ah I am sure that isn't a nice thought at all! :( I feel a little guilty as I don't have kids or anything.. Im just being a general big woose about the whole thing! But as you say, I am sure we will both be fine and before we know it we will be laughing that we ever worried so much about it!
I see your surgery is coming up very soon - big good luck to you and i am sure you will be over the moon with ur new boobies!! :) xx

Re: terrified of the GA!
Not at all babe. You may find reading through the 'surgery stories' our lovely ladies have written for us all to read here a good comforter to you also hun. Most felt just as you do now and its great to read their excitement right after surgery. It helps bring that excitement back to your own BA journey babe, which is a lot of a roller coaster for most of us, but we're all really happy at the end. Xx
Re: terrified of the GA!
Just read the GA thread and it was a brilliant read and has definitely put my GA nerves at bay. I had a quick read of one or two of the surgery stories and will continue to read them all (probably 2 or 3 times!) up until the date of my surgery! I read a girl saying she had read them so many times that she felt she had been through it all before so hoping it will have the same effect!! :)
I am so excited for my BA. wanted this for such a long time and just feels so surreal that I have my date etc xxx

Re: terrified of the GA!
Its an amazing experience hun, so enjoy the time you have building up to it, those butterflies, excitement, intrigue and yes... Even the things that scare you right now, when you look back after your surgery you'll realise this really is one of the best times of your life hun! Xx
Re: terrified of the GA!
thank you so much for your support. Cant explain how much it means to me to feel like I can post any worries/concerns! Will definitely keep you all posted on my boobie journey and will be writing my own story up very soon :)xxx

Re: terrified of the GA!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. tried to reply to this twice and it keeps not sending!!!!!
typed out a massive reply but basically i was terrified of the ga but woke up wondering what i'd been so worried about, i felt great after the ga. like i'd had a lovely sleep and was all nice and warm under my blanky :) your anesthetist is very well trained, they undergo full medical training then a further 5 - 8 years specialist training so you're in very safe hands! complications for ga are so rare if you're young, fit & healthy etc. more likely to run into trouble on the way to the hosp than on the table! xx

Re: terrified of the GA!
Thanks newboobz for replying again after it wouldnt send!
Ah i hope I have the same experience as you with the GA! My mum also reassured me that they are well trained and its like a daily routine for them! & thats very true.. Hopefully i dont run into any trouble on my journey or my BA :P
I have always been terrified of injections so think my family were very shocked when i told them i was having a BA! But I keep reminding myself of the light at the end of yhe tunnel after years of feeling horrible about my body!
