Worrying about weight after a BA?
Please don't!
its worrying me lately seeing so many women worrying about their weight post-op when they've just has major surgery. You're going to be bloated, you're going to be carrying fluid that surrounds the implant initially post-op as well as air that will all contribute to weight gain initially post-op.
Your belly may be bloated as a side effect of the general anaesthetic also and you'll feel very full for a few days.
THIS IS ALL NORMAL!
These are the reasons you will carry a little excess weight after surgery girls, so step away from the scales and focus on having a healthy recovery. Eating healthily is going to promote good healing. Its been proven that a healthy diet has people healing far quicker and better than those that don't and as soon as you feel able, getting yourself up and walking is not only going to help promote a quicker recovery but as your recovery progresses its also going to help you maintain your pre-BA weight, which WILL return if you simply eat well and get your excercise from walking.
Weight loss after surgery caused by the things I've mentioned above isn't going to happen over night! Your weight is going to gradually return as your healing progresses.
So please girls.... Focus on getting well. Your weight will take care of itself if you look after yourself. X

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Thanks cookie x for the first few weeks I looked like I had gained a little weight! I didn't go any where near a set of scales, and only knew my weight as I was weighed at the hospital! I feel I am now back to my pre op size. And the only reason I didn't worry is because I had already read a couple of threads on this fantastic site saying it was all normal xx

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Thank you Cookie. Admittedly, this has been concerning me because I have some weight to lose before my BA and have noticed quite a few people mentioning post-BA weight gain so this is reassuring! xx

jodiblueeyes - what bra is that in your Avi (I'm hoping it's a high impact sports)?! You are lucky to have such a glimpse of a cleavage already, mine isn't happening yet!! Such wonders the right bra can do though!

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Hi boodreams, that is a "Belvia bra" from jml... Mum picked it up as shop didn't have any sports bras my size and only wanted it while I washed the proper support bra my clinic issued me with ... Thank you! That bra is very flattering and super comfy but its not a sports bra that's the only thing ... I'm still sitting very high and pert and the moment but loving it haha wish I could keep that one on but still have 21 days if yucky tight sports style one to wear, boo xxx

Great info on here, I am trying my hardest to lose a few lbs before my surgery so that the post-surgery weight isn't too shocking!

I would like to add, that I eat a lot of meat and the nurse has said to me that my scars are looking better than there time scale, she said protein helps heal from the inside out ad better quicker results than you would have had already depending on your usual healing rate xxx

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Thanks for this reassuring post Cookie, I'm having sweats already thinking of how I will cope not being able to go to gym post op.This is 1 of my biggest concerns, I'm so committed to my training and feel really proud of the hard work I've put in to get my figure back after 2 kids. It's frustrating how much effort it takes to stay toned and how quickly you can lose it, for me a simple 2 week over indulgent holiday can set me back 6 months, so I struggle with thought of building up strength & fitness again after op. But I know the outcome will be worth it, & I remind myself of the sacrifices I had to make during pregnancies which seemed like a lifetime whereas this will only be a few weeks, a walk in the park really! X

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Exactly Louise as long as you're sensible and stay focused on the final outcome, the gym will seriously seem insignificant in comparison.
Boobs are priority when healing, then after that... There's nothing that you can't do! Xx

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
So glad I stumbled across this post tonight.
I have never been one to regularly use the scales but since working hard to loose my baby weight i am aware of what my 'usual' weight is. Weighed myself Sunday with my hubby (who is trying to loose a few pounds) and was amazed id put on 8lbs since my op!! Panicked for a few minutes until i found this post. I can already feel my clothes feeling better again, as i start walking more again, so know its going again but it is another blow when you already feel emotional. So glad i found this group! xx

Re: Worrying about weight after a BA?
Thanks Cookie, it is good to see the reasoning behind the weight gain and not to try to lose too much before the op. Am going to try to learn how to make recipies with healthy things like kale soup and lots of protein that help promote wound closure/clotting and optimum healing before my op x
