Feeling restricted
Hi All,
as most of you know, I was told to go commando from day one.
My surgeon said to either wear no bra or to wear lycra vest tops with the hidden support if i felt I needed to. Although I was given sports bras when I left hospital just incase.
I am returning to work on the 3rd and obviously need to wear a bra.
I have worn a sports bra on a couple of occasions when I thought I may need to 'protect' them more - out shopping and xmas day. but I felt very very restricted and made my boobs hurt (not enough pain for meds, but still uncomfortable)
I have tried to wear the shock absorber the hospital gave me and although its not digging in, it feels like it is. I also tried wearing ones that i have bought, but again the same. Feels liek they are digging in and i feel i constantly need to adjust them. But still again... they are not digging in. Obviously where I can't feel certain areas its where they feel it is digging in.
So what do i do when I return to work? I am going shopping now to see if I can find other sports bras to wear, but is this generally normal? or is it just that i am not used to wearing them?
When I wore the sports bras after surgery (the two times I did) After a couple of hours I felt I really needed to take them off and once i took them off I felt heaps better. Like wearing shoes on a night out... the get home and take your shoes off feeling!
The restriction feels more down my sides and across the top of my boob... do you think I should try a bigger size? Although the shock absorber is def the right size cup but maybe too big around the band
Thanks girls
xx

Re: Feeling restricted
If your surgeon has requested you go commando or in a vest then the last thing you want to do is wear a support bra lovely.
If you need to wear a bra then maybe buy a non-wired soft cup bra sweetheart. One that offers coverage but no support as such.
When you go to buy the bra, you could ask to be fitted for it also to ensure you're also wearing the correct size for you 'right now' xx

That's a tough one I hated my sports bra at first I felt suffocated and it was so uncomfy but now I'm used to it , if you have been told not to wear one then I wouldn't your ps must of told you not to for a reason. Maybe as cookie said a soft seam free wireless like the genie bras I think they are called or a very low impact soft sports, don't take my word for it though as I'm not sure what you should wear, mayb call the clinic for advice xx

Re: Feeling restricted
Thanks for the advice girls... i've cracked it!
Good old Primark and Sports direct! Primark does a 'sports bra' which is seem free and non wired. Just a basic crop top £4.00 bargain and so comfy (sat in changing room for ages moving around haha!
Sports direct do a similar thing but it has a bit of extra padding at the front to hide nips.... defintiely what i need for work and they were only £7.00!
So I bought a few of both as they are so comfy, I may well live in them!
My surgeon said no bra, but the discharge cosmetic nurse who fitted my bra when I left said this.... We have two surgeons here, one says wear a bra at all times and Dr Carver says no bra. There is no definitive way to do it, so just do what feels comfortable for you.' She also said she couldn't tell the difference between those that wore bras and those that didn't.
So I'm very happy with my seem free crop toppy sports bra thingys for work and for when I'm dressed as Where's Wally tonight for my sisters new years party haha!

Blimey! That's a brave nurse to go around disrespecting a surgeon like that she mustn't care too much for her job that's or sure!
You should listen to your 'surgeon' and surgeon only babe. Its his expertise you paid for and part of that is to provide post-op care information to you to give you the best result. A nurse just isn't qualified to do that hun and certainly shouldn't be telling you to ignore the advice given to you by your surgeon.
I'd listen to you surgeon if it were me hun. They assessed your pre-op boobs, they did the operation to help you achieve the look you want and they KNOW what is best to get you that result in following their post-op care
I'm pretty shocked by that nurse to be honest. Xx

Re: Feeling restricted
I prefer to be braless anyways cookie lol, its what I've been used to. But in day to day life, it is impossible to go without a bra at times. Especially in my line of work... I deal with 'not very nice people' all day and night and so having a nip showing through my shirt would not be the best thing haha!
But I've gone for seem free crop tops which to be honest wouldn't of offered me any support with my pre op boobs let alone now haha!
Its more of a comfort thing on my part. I feel I need to keep my new friends safe ;0)

Re: Feeling restricted
Oh, I agree hun. I'd also prefer to keep my modesty lol. You've done the right thing in listening to your surgeon rather than the nurse hun and not gone for support. Sometimes when the skin/muscle is very tight some surgeons advise no bra (I'm not saying this is the advice for you) so if they applied support its difficult for the breasts to drop, but if they're free they can do so naturally... Surgeons have their reasons hun, so always listen to your surgeon  xx
