Tongue piercing.....
Another question...... Sorry :(
Have any girls kept their tongue piercing in for surgery?
I'm hoping I can just change the bar for a fully plastic one??
Thabks

Re: Tongue piercing.....
Hey Lucy,
I have not got a tongue piercing, but I have tunnels in my ears, tragus piercing and a lip ring and I was told I had to take them all out. It took me bloody ages to get them out and twice as long to get them back in. It was a right pain in the **naughty word**. The first thing I did when I came round was tell my sister to put them all back in...my face felt so naked!!!
So yeah, you are probably going to have to take it out. I took the fastenings off of all of mine, so that I could keep them in until the very last minute when I was called in, so it was not as painful putting them back in.

Re: Tongue piercing.....
Any piercings in your mouth will asked to be removed.
Just keep it by your bed so you can pop it back in as soon as you're back
You're not away from your bed for that long (generally around an hour/ hour and a half) so it won't have closed in that amount of time.

Thanks both :)
I'm going to take the plastic bar with me just in case they let me keep it in (wishful thinking) as they have told me I can keep my belly bar in as long as I replace it with a plastic one.
Iv had it pierced a year so an hour or so out should be ok I hope
Xxx

I've heard that plastic jewelry is okay during surgery, but I'd be unsure about the tongue ring, as they have to put that tube down your throat and that may affect things? With the amount of time surgery takes, you wouldn't have to worry about it closing up. Also, if you do get sick from the GA, I'd say having the tongue ring out would probably be a lot better.

Hi hunni
I have a belly bar in and I was told it needed to come out during surgery even though they were going no where near it !! Think it's one of the rules of surgery so guessing you will have to remove it Hun . You can pop it back in after you had your BA xxxx

Tongue bar has to come out I took mine out just before and put it in a medicine cup then forgot about it til next morning I had nurses looking for it as they had moved me rooms during ga and they had lost it lol but anyway I was worried it may of been out too long but it was fine don't stress they need your mouth to be clear for your own safety x x

Re: Tongue piercing.....
I think with your mouth, as they have to have it un obstructed for the tube for breathing they will probably ask you to take it out.
