Oh geez, nosy boss! I do wish the clinic was closer. Haven't heard of any surgeons in the North East that come nearly as highly recommended as Mr Withey but if I do, I'll check them out. I think the hospital is an additional £150 per night which isn't so bad considering London hotel costs! Luckily I have over 5 weeks holiday built up for this, been saving all year and have't had a break! However, I just realised I have to take it before April, the end of the tax year so looks like I have no choice but to have my BA in March! It's part of a body transformation, I've lost 2 stone recently so all I need are some boobs and I'll be a total babe! lol xxx

Like Misf says you can just get a private hire company to drive you home xx

There should be some local to you xx lots of people use them to get to airports etc xx

I would not recommend a train journey on your own xx I don't think they would escort you there either and put you on xx IMO your best option is a private hire vehicle xx

You should be fine to look after yourself for 3 weeks xx

You normally go back to see the nurse after 1 week, who will complete a wound check xx If everything is okay then at 6 weeks you normally see your surgeon again xx If everything is ok at that point then you go back for a check up after 1 year xx

Just to throw another spanner in the works, have you thought about what you will do if you have any complications, or an emergency?? What would you do?? shrug

Most people drive after 1 week xx with no issues xx

Why don't you try to find a PS nearer to you and meet them as well? xx You never know you might meet Withey and hate him xx

My original PS was also allegedly 'highly recommended' however I wish I'd never had the misfortune of meeting him!! The man is completely incompetent and lacked the skills and technical ability to carry out my surgery and I was left paying the price xx

What I;m trying to say is, even if a PS is right for some, he is not right for others xx no harm in having some other consults and researching the procedure so that you can make an informed decision xx

Thanks Shaz! I cut out sugar completely. That was my major weakness but I don't miss it at all. Just started eating a lot healthier and eating as 'clean' as possible. Thank you love A few questions... - Page 2 67188

Yes, I totally understand. My own office is notorious for gossip and I try to keep a low profile as I don't want to be the subject of it. Has anyone you work with asked if you've had a BA? Luckily I already wear heavily padded bras so my BA won't be too much of a difference I imagine! xx

Kay, do you know of any private hire companies at all? Or any idea what I could search for in Google? I don't know that anyone would drive from London to Darlington, it's quite a distance...I haven't thought about what I'd do if there were any complications. After what length of time would I know if this was the case? I suppose I could stay in the hospital for a week...Yes, I think I will try to see if there are any PS nearer to me, I will search this site and see if anyone recommends one. I have no idea so far. You're totally right though. Oh God, I'm so sorry to hear about your original PS hun. That's awful. I hope you're ok now. No one should have to go through that. A few questions... - Page 2 683465

To be honest hun i'd maybe have a consultation with a surgeon at the Leeds or Newcastle MyBreast, all their surgeons are BAAPS/BAPRAS registered so they're very qualified and I think someone on here said some of them have been handpicked by Mr Withey himself. Would make it easier on you in the long run I think hun, especially in terms of aftercare. xx

Hi Newboobz,

Yes, you're probably correct, I think I'll definitely do that, don't really fancy complicating things for myself any more than necessary! I have my consultation with Mr Withey on 30th November anyway and apparently he is very honest and recommends other surgeons if necessary, which is why he appealed to me initially. I will express my concerns and will see what he says. I live an hour and a half from Leeds and am fairly familiar with the area so that wouldn't be a problem. Are you planning a BA in Leeds? Just noticed you are from that area A few questions... - Page 2 321562

well, i'm actually having my BA in London :P i'm in Leeds for Uni but will be graduating in May so moving back down that way, not planning on getting it done until August because i'm still saving at the moment. I've got a consultation with Mr Withey booked in January when i'm going to be back with my mum for a bit over Xmas. I did look into getting it done last year whilst I was in Leeds and went to a few consultations etc but because of money issues i'm putting it off until i'm back home. Also means all my family will be around to help me while i recover. Couldn't imagine doing it on my own so kudos to you hun! xx

Newboobz: Ahh, I see. That's great you're studying in Leeds, what are you studying?
I will let you know how my consulation with Mr Withey goes in a couple of weeks time. Aww thank you. TBH I'd much rather have my mum around but she lives in Glasgow anyway so she wouldn't be able to stay and look after me. How did your family react when you told them? Did you come across any surgeons you liked in Leeds? xxx

Shaz: I actually thought that if anyone asked, I could just say I'd put on weight! Can't believe someone actually had the nerve to ask you that though!! Yes will def be looking closer to home too. Luckily I live close to Newcastle, Darlington, Leeds, Durham etc so probably have quite a few PS to choose from. We'll see xxx

Yeah it's such a great place to study! I might move back here at some point. My mum's fine with it, just says it's my body etc and make sure i'm being safe in choosing a surgeon which i am. The surgeons I met in Leeds were from Transform, MYA and Hospital Group. I only liked one of them, who has now been suspended anyway! But after doing more research on here i'd like to have a BAAPS/BAPRAS surgeon. xxx

That's great! Yes, Leeds is a great place although I hate driving there because there's speed cameras everywhere!! That's fab your mum has been so supportive. I am quite keen to find a Mybreast surgeon even if it's not Mr Withey, as I've heard great things about the company. However, I've genuinely never heard so many positive things about a surgeon as I have with Mr Withey which is really reassuring xxx

I don't mind driving around the outskirts but the city centre is manic, just about getting the hang of it after being here for 3 years! Yeah, I really hope she doesn't tell anybody else though cos i can't be arsed with snide comments from my grandma and such :P

I've not heard that much about Mr Withey, but I know he's one of the founders of MyBreast so I thought i might aswell go and see him. I know he's £500 more than the other surgeons but i'd rather pay more for the best! xxx

Aw bless you, I think the girls have given you great advice Hun. I would consider seeing a surgeon closer o home but regardless if its local or London ou would need to have somebody to collect you and help you with your bags and things and to just help you in general so that you can rest as much as you can. I would consider telling your mum or a friend ou can trust, you will probably be surprised o their response. You could ask them to keep it confidential. There was a lady on here who was so worried about telling her mum because she didn't think she'd approve and infact her mum was really supportive I'm sure you will find this too xx

Do you know how much he is? I have no idea about prices etc. I'm currently researching others who have a similarly excellent reputation. So far have only read about Mrs Kat in Birmingham.

Yes, the city centre is manic! I was in Rodley a couple of weeks ago and left at rush hour, which was a mistake!

I understand you not wanting to tell certain people. It's such a personal thing and I feel that lots of people will make assumptions, thinking people who have BAs just want to look like Jordan but holy moly, I can't think of anything worse! xxx

Mummy me: Thank you for your advice. Yes, I'm definitely going to consider telling someone. Maybe not my mum because I know she'll worry and I don't want her telling my sister because she's the most judgemental person ever. I might tell my ex because he's lovely and also knows a lot of my secrets already!! xxx

I agree, a BA is surgery and although we choose to have it done it's like any other surgery and the recovery isn't always easy! It is all worth is and a few years down the line you will struggle to even remember what it was like. I know I do. Xx

Post by red 18th November 2012, 12:04 pm

Hiya, I think all the girls have given great advice and maybe Simon may recommend a surgeon closer to home, After my first ba I only had a 20 minute journey home and I was really glad to and I needed alot of help at home as well. For my 2nd ba I went to Rochdale which was nearly 2 and a half hours but I was fine. There was a girl on her own from Durham who had used Mya drivers service and I sat in her room with her the whole afternoon because she was very teary and very frightened and just think she needed someone with her. I also had a consultation with Mani Ragbir through mybreast and I was very impressed so maybe you could look into seeing him. If you really feel you cant confide in your mam or a friend and you choose to have your ba in the north-east I could offer you my support with transport etc. I feel personaly even though it is surgery you are choosing to have it is still very daunting and I really needed the emotional and practical help from my friend, husband and mam. I didnt tell work about my 2nd ba and nobody noticed-big jumpers, sports bra and scarves ha ha.xxx

If transport isn't provided hun I doubt you'll be able to do this alone. Not only will you need assistance leaving the hospital but also the first night you're home too.

This is major surgery and you'll be having a general anaesthetic babe. You NEED someone to be there for you should you have any difficulties. This surgery does not come without risks and they're at their highest right after surgery hun. Xx

Post by goldilockz1984 18th November 2012, 2:23 pm

Hi guys,
Thank you all so much for your advice.
I woke up this morning and my first thought was I need to tell someone. It is very tricky at the moment because my ex-boyfriend is the only person I really would like to tell, I know he'll be there with me if I ask him, but we are going through a very difficult time and he is a bit unstable following our breakup. However, I wholeheartedly agree that I need someone there to look after me and do the menial things I'm unable to do. However, after my consulation at the end of November and after speaking to Mr Withey, I will send my ex an email explaining the situation and asking if he'd be willing to help. There's no one else I know who is *that* kind and supportive of me besides my mum and I am hesitant to tell her for various reasons. I will also book an appointment with Mr Ragbir in Newcastle, thank you for your recommendations. If my ex was unable to help, do you think it would be better if I were to stay in the hospital in London for an extra 5 or 6 days and then make my own way?

Red: thank you so much for offering your help, it is so kind of you. Perhaps we can PM or meet up and discuss your own experiences at some point? I don't know anyone else who has had a BA and have only learned what to expect from this site. Thank you again everyone xxx

I know I can't speak for your mum, but I think she'd appreciate if you told her. It's just something I don't think I could ever keep from mine. Like I said she may be more supportive than you think. Give You

I'm not sure what kind of relationship you and your ex had, but do you think he'd be able to handle the fact you've had a ba or could you whole hearted.y rely on him when the time comes?

I hope it works out for you what ever you decide hunny xxx

I didn't tell my mum about my last two surgeries babe, sometimes mums just don't need to know Hug but you do need somebody and if that only somebody is your ex then just make it very clear to him that you need a 'friend' hun.

It would probably cost you a pretty penny if you requested to stay in a hospital for 4/5 days babe! I'd ask the ex. You only need him to take you home and spend one night with you. As long as you plan for your op you'll be able to cope just fine alone after that. Xx

If you put private taxi or car hire + the area you live in into google then it should throw some results up, failing that look it up in yell.com xx

I think a private hire company will be cheaper than staying in the hospital for a few days xx

Like Cookie says I don't think this is something that you are gonna be able to do completely alone xx Like I said what if you have an emergency or complication ?? xx Again I can only echo what Cookie has said, you are putting yourself up for major surgery under GA, if the ex could pick you up, run you home and be there for you for the first 24 hours at home I reckon you'll be fine after that too

I agree with cookie, if you want your ex to look after you and you say he is unstable after your break up you have to make it very clear the reasons you want him around after surgery. It wouldn't be fair on him if he thought it ment something it didn't.
Hope things work out ok for you whatever you decide to do xxx
