A few questions...
Hi girls!
I have my consultation in 2 weeks with Mr Withey in London. I'm so excited, but have a lot of research to do beforehand as I'm pretty much a beginner to this BA business! I have a couple of questions to ask you guys, just to get the ball rolling...
I live in Yorkshire and am intending to have surgery in London. How long do you think I would have to stay in London before being able to travel home by train after my surgery?
How long do you think I will need to get off work? I don't want anyone to notice my BA. I know that kind of defeats the object but I wear padded bras at the moment and don't want anyone to twig I've had a BA, which I admit may be kind of hard...is that realistic? Has anyone else managed that? I'm going for a natural look, hopefully from a 36B to a 36D or DD.
Thanks lovelies

Re: A few questions...
I live near London and travelled to Liverpool for my last BA xx I had to stay overnight and then my DH drove me home the next day xx It was the most uncomfortable 3 and half hours I have ever had in a car I have to say, however I made it and I was ok but needed to lay down when I got home after taking some pain killers xx I did have an uplift though which is a bit more invasive xx
I don't know about the train hun xx Everyone is different you see you might be fine the next day or you may feel awful
How long were you planning on staying in London for?? xx

Re: A few questions...
I would have at least a night in London. See if you can get an early BA and a late train the nxt day? Are you travelling alone? You will feel dozy the nxt day.

Re: A few questions...
Yes I will be staying at least 2 nights for definite and then probably booking first class on the way back to have more room. The journey is 3.5 hours. Yes, I'll be travelling alone as no one else knows about my BA! I'm a little scared to be honest xx

Re: A few questions...
They usually wont let you out of the hospital unless someone is there to take you. They may let you leave on your own but I think you will need to ask about it. As you will have bags with you and no one to help you carry them, you wont be able to lift bags for about 6 weeks either. Do you have anyone to look after you while you are there? I know this sounds very negative but I think traveling on your own may be a bit much on your own. Getting pushed and shoved while in the train stations wont be nice with very new additions and you may still be quite uncomfortable. It may be easier to have your BA closer to home, where a friend may be able to come get you and help you out for a few days.
Re: A few questions...
I wouldn't have wanted to do the 3.5 hours back from Liverpool alone xx I was very sore, stiff and uncomfortable, not too mention slow moving xx
I'm also sorry to be negative hun, but have you not got a bestie that could come with you to look after you?? xx

Re: A few questions...
Agree with misf and kay Hun, that's a long old journey back mine was 2hrs in a car and even that was uncomftBle. Not only that but the effects of the ga and pain meds may make you feel sick, spaced out wobbly and again no carrying bags, suit case etc so I would really advise on some help sweetie. Even if it's just one best friend or family member xx

Re: A few questions...
Hi guys,
I really appreciate your concern. I don't have anyone I can tell really. My friends wouldn't understand, nor would they offer their help in that way. In addition, my mum wouldn't really understand either and would try to talk me out of it. I don't want to be the subject or gossip ('Oooohh, did you hear Jen go a boob job?!' etc), I just want to do this for me so resigned myself to going it alone. I hadn't really considered it'd be that bad going on the train but then it is London, I suppose it's kind of terrifying even if you've not had surgery...I appreciate you all bringing this to my attention, don't really know what to do. The only person I'd considered telling is my ex boyfriend but while I trust him with my life, we broke up only a few months ago and he is devastated so asking him for this massive favour seems inappropriate.
Ideally, I'd have a BA closer to home but I have heard wonderful things about Mr Withey and no surgeons in the North East seem to match his credentials and recommendations.

Re: A few questions...
True, and you're totally right, but I know if I told my mum, she'd tell my step-dad and my sister...and I don't get on with them. In addition, my mum is quite a worrier and I really don't want to upset her. I don't know what to do for the best. I wish there was some sort of service where you could hire a friend to look after you. I feel like this is going to be a very lonely experience.

Re: A few questions...
Where bouts in Yorkshire you from hun? I understand the feelings you're going through, we're all here for you throughout your journey. Sorry we can't physically be there to help :( my only suggestion would be to book a chauffeur for trip back but not sure how much that'd be xxx

Re: A few questions...
Thank you Shaz. Yes, I will do that. I am going with MyBreast and I think they're pretty good with things like that. I live on my own and intend to take 3 weeks off work. Do you think I'd be able to do normal things on my own in this time, like taking a bath and cooking etc or will I need assistance with everyday tasks? In terms of lifting things, I could always get a Tesco delivery so I wouldn't have to lift anything heavy.
Newboobz: I live in Richmond which is close to Darlington. I'm not sure how much a taxi/ Chaffeur from London would cost as it's over a three hour drive...I suppose it might be worth investing in that...xxx

Re: A few questions...
Really feel for you Hun 3 weeks off work should be ok I went back after a week but don't have a particularly strenuous job, you will have to take it really easy you don't want to be stretching and lifting and compromising your recovery it would be better if you had someone with you as your going to be tired after GA too.
Check with Mybreast about travel see what they suggest. Xxx

Re: A few questions...
You can also pay a taxi company, they do like airport and chauffer companies too. Might be worth a try. You should be fine to look after yourself for the 3 weeks afterwards. Microwave meals and dry shampoo for a few days.
Re: A few questions...
Kay: fingers crossed MyBreast are one of the companies that provide transport. I don't mind paying for it as I don't think the whole experience is something you should be looking for a bargain deal on!
Shaz, thank you love, it's good to know there are people who care and I have people to confide in. I just have an office job so nothing too strenuous either. I suppose I'm more concerned that my boobs won't have settled by then and will look obviously massive! What does GA stand for?
Misf1: Yeah, I don't really intend to be leaving the house much in the three weeks I'll be off work so no need to wash my hair too often! It just occurred to me, will I have to go back for a checkup after a few weeks? xx

Re: A few questions...
Usually they do want you back for check ups, maybe they will let you go to the manchester clinic for your initial check up?
Re: A few questions...
Mybreast dont offer transport hun, well they didn't when I enquired. You will need to go back for regular check ups. He may run a clinic closer to you though?xox

Re: A few questions...
Hi Caz,
Yes, there is a clinic in Newcastle which is closer to me but I am very keen on the surgeon at the London clinic. Do you know how often the check-ups are? I suppose transport is something I could do without, I just would need someone to escort me to the train station and make sure I get onboard ok. xx

Re: A few questions...
Hi Shaz, Really appreciate you sharing your experience hun, it's hugely helpful and I'm really chuffed I've found this site
I am hoping to stay maybe an extra night or two at the hospital as I think you can pay for extra nights, so perhaps the journey home won't be so awful after that?
Yes, scarves hide loads! Good plan! I thought I'd be wearing baggy jumpers to work for the rest of my life! There is a girl in the office who had a BA and wears extremely low cut tops so everyone talks about her. I don't want that to be me!
Yes, I do drive but assumed I wouldn't be able to drive for a long time after the BA. If I am able to go to the Newcastle or Leeds clinics post op that would be perfect as they're only about an hour away from me. London would be more tricky...xx

Re: A few questions...
Yeah I definitely wouldn't want to drive Back to London that's why I tried to pick a clinic closer to my home!
I wouldn't have minded staying in hospital a few extra days lol getting looked after and having peace and quiet
I agree I wouldn't wear low cut tops to work either I haven't told anyone at work, I had to take unpaid leave as I have nearly used my hol days and my manager wanted to know why...nosy, I said its personal and left it at that lol!! Sure you'll get it all sorted. Keep in touch love xxx
