Lol check you out bursting from your old bras hahaha. Xx
You really don't have to be sat upright lovely, as long as your head and shoulders are raised above your chest that's all that's needed to help with the swelling.
If your back is in pain, try using a hot water bottle in the small of your back, or maybe a rolled up towel behind it to take the pressure off, along with a pillow under your knees...
Really does help lots babe.
Your clinic nurse will be able to advice after seeing you when you go back for a wound check whether your swelling has reduced enough for you to be able to start sleeping on your side hun. Xx

Hi Newbyboobys, thanks for posting this question! It's one of my worries as I really need my sleep! I'm also wondering how long will it be before i'll be able to sleep on my side or stomach? Thanks for the advice Cookie! (am I supposed to post my questions on a separate thread?!) :)

It's ok to continue on a thread of the same topic jogo, don't worry
When you go back to see your clinic nurse/surgeon for your wound check, they can assess the swelling you have lovely and they'll give you a guide for when y ou can start sleeping on your side.
By two weeks post op you should feel about ready to do this... Using your V Pillow to cuddle into on your side creating a gap for your boobs to rest in helps lots as it takes the pressure off from your body resting on them. V pillows are the BEST! Lol. Xx

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
I had this problem at around your stage and its horrible, just gradually lower yourself and as Cookie said you dont need to be bolt upright. V-pilow helped me and a cushion in the small of my back. Otherwise I twisted myself a bit so that my bum and legs were sideways and my upper body was still straight and this helped to take the pressure off my lower back!

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
im rly not looking forward to this part, especially cause i ALWAYS sleep on my stomach!
During my pregnancy, my tummy never got bigger than my boobs.. so i could always sleep on my front even at 8 and a half months! so this will be a real challenge. My surgeon also said prob about 4-6 weeks before I can be on my side even....
Dont u all roll over in the night accidently?

I sleep on my front as a rule, but I love a snooze so it's not been as bad as I thought, just the back ache a bit of a pain!! I was wondering if you shouldn't sleep on your front after a BA as a rule? Probably my little brain on the go again I have used a small cushion under my back and the V pillow is great .

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
I sometimes roll on my side in my sleep a bit and my surgeon said that if I wake up on my side not to worry too much as long as I dont roll onto my front. (I was a front sleeper!) I am desperate to lie on my front but at the same time I cant imagine anything worse than compressing them!!

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
I slept sat mostly upright for 10 days but I did used to wake up almost flat on my back most days, lol! Still sleeping on my back with my V pillow and kinda used to it now though I would love to get back my old sleeping position... hand under pillow, on the side with one knee straight and one knee up to my face, haha! Think I am a few months off that!!

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
I'm still sleeping slightly propped up @ 4 weeks po!! I am gradually getting lower and lower, as my body is adjusting :smiler:
I have attempted to sleep on my side, but hasn't been comfy yet.

There is that possibility yes... I found a pillow under each arm helped prevent rolling for me as well as offering support for my arms too hun. xx

lol not at all.... yes, you can go back to front sleeping if you feel comfortable enough to do so. I was a front sleeper myself pre-BA and know of lots of women who have no problems getting back to that when they felt able.
I personally no longer find sleeping on my front very comfortable, I'm fine for short periods, but after that i just need to get off the two balls I can feel in my chest.
Sorry if that wasn't what you wanted to hear babe, but its the only way I can describe it for me. xx
Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
the early days i slept on the setee as i was worried my partner would wack me in the night! i hated sleeping on my back and would always wake up flat after slipping down the bed. I did roll over once by accident and had a sharp shooting pain in one boob which woke me up!! i couldnt sleep on my side until probably about 6 weeks.

Re: How long are we supposed to sleep upright for?
I am still sleeping propped up, although less propped up than the first week or so! I can sleep slightly on my left side for about 20 mins then I need to move. Have only tried this 3 times. Can't do it on the other side yet though. Suppose everyone is different to as and when they can sleep on their sides. My surgeon told me after 2-3 weeks if swelling was down then I would be OK to lay flatter but to do it gradually.xx
