Fluid Around breast?!
Hi,
Today I had a mammogram and an ultra sound scan and was told that there is quite a lot of fluid surrounding my left breast implant which is why it is suddenly larger than the other! I was sent for a blood test to rule out any infection and have to go back and see a plastic surgeon in a week or two for the results!!
I feel quite upset....although it's good to know that there are no major problems i still don't really know what the problem is or what the treatment will be. Is it likely that there would be an infection now, it's almost 2 years since my op?!!
Has anyone else had the same thing? xxx

Re: Fluid Around breast?!
Hi Daisy,
This could be seroma. Its quite common, usually they resove themselves but sometimes in severe cases the fluid needs to be drained away.
If the breast is sore, red and warm, these are signs of infection, but if youre not experiencing this then hopefully the body will reabsorb the fluid. xxx

Re: Fluid Around breast?!
With an implant being alien to our bodies, 'sometimes' our bodies can fight this being there and cause infection and this can happen anytime after being implanted hun, thats not at all to say that this is happening with you, it may just be that you knocked your breast and didn't think anything of it and the fluid as with anywhere on the body, builds up to protect the area and does eventually disperse all on it's own as the body heals itself.
I know it's easy for me to say Daisy, but try not to worry until you actually know what's going on and if need be, what can be done to help you. It may just be that you need a course of anti-b's and that will be that, so there's no point making yourself ill worrying in the meantime about something that might be nothing to concern yourself over lovely. Wait and see what your surgeon says Daisy and I hope all goes well for you lovely.

Re: Fluid Around breast?!
Thank you ladies :)
I don't remember knocking my breast, although hubby was a little excited in bed one night and he squished my boob which felt quite painful and I had to tell him to move!!
Anyway, you are right Cookie.....I will try and remain calm until I see the PS again. I must say I was treated very well today and feel that they had a really good look which can only be a good thing!
This site is such a great support.....none of my family know about my my BA, just a handful of friends so it's good to be able to come here......thank you xxx

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's no infection and it's easily manageable Daisylou, like Cookie said don't worry yourself about it. Whatever's going on with your naughty boobie you'll have the answers and a solution to soon enough x

Hi Daisylou,
sorry to hear your experiencing this. I had to have fluid drained away from both breasts but it happened quite soon after my surgery though. It was pretty painless hun and was done by my ps several times as unfortunately it kept filling back up! it definately sounds like they are looking after you though. Fingers crossed for you xx

Re: Fluid Around breast?!
Thanks ladies, it has been quite uncomfortable overnight as its quite large and firm, it seems to have developed a dull ache :(. It feels like it did in the early days following my op!
Butterfly.....I see you're having a re-op, is that because of the fluid problem? Did they say what causes it to build up?
I don't know if I should still be working out but I wasn't told not to so I guess it's ok.....I just don't want to aggrevate it further! I think I'll give them a call on Monday if it hasn't settled down.

Re: Fluid Around breast?!
Hi,
my re-op isn't because of fluid hun, it's because my implants have bottomed out and I need more skin taking away. I had a full anchor lift as well as 390 implants. My fluid was due to doing to much after my op to soon so it might be a good idea not to overdo things hun. I know you are a year po but whilst you have fluid building up it might be best to take it easy as your body must not be liking something to produce it.
I hope it gets sorted soon hun xx
