Eeeek Fluid coming from wound!!

So girls.......after getting a bit complacent past couple of days got a wee fright tonight, but touch wood, doesnt look like anything too serious!!

As Ive posted my right breast was query infective after developing a couple of symptoms about 5 days post op. After a course of antibiotics everything seemed settled and saw my PS today for a check up and both him and I are happy with how things are going and how my new boobs are settling in!

Right breast was slightly more swollen but nothing too serious........then tonight....! Went to put my PJs on and got a fright when I saw my sports bra all stained on right side....took it off and wound seeping fluid, like gushing.....!!

Went to my clinic and they were fantastic......they basically said it was probably a wee collection which was better out than in....not foul smelling or any other symptoms, but they've taken a swab and dressed it all nicely for me anyway!! I kinda know in myself its nothing to worry about, due my job and also not feeling unwell at all.

All part of the journey and as my nurse said, quite often hiccups develop along the recovery path, but not always serious.

Hope this helps someone in future....for a few minutes it really did not look good....had to put a lot of pressure on wound with towel and wasnt sure what was going to happen on my way there, but alls well that ends well......and dont always think the worst.......

and dont get too complacent either...like me ha ha!!

That must have been quite a scare for you sweetheart I've got to say, it's not something I've ever heard of before so it's good to hear your clinic don't seem concerned at all.

Did they give any indication what the cause may be?

Was the fluid clear?

Did you previously feel pressure in breast from the fluid being there?

How odd! I can understand why you would be concerned! I'm so pleased to hear the clinic checked you over ASAP and said everything seemed fine too! Must have been such a relief to hear! X

Cookie, nooo didnt feel any pressure at all.....think my sports bra was putting pressure on wound or I would have noticed the leakage earlier!

The Nuffield were fab, it was the ward staff (out of hours) and phoned my PS right away....he said to come in to see on call doc and if necessary he would come in.....they were waiting on me when I arrived.

They basically said due previous swelling, it prob was just a collection of excess fluid which needed to come out. It was just a tiny wee hole on the right sided wound.....I wondered if it could have burst due my exerting myself and they said prob not...although its a reminder to watch myself again!!

Fluid was serous, clear straw like, no foul smell, no gunk, no inflammation, pain, redness or fever so hopefully the swab will come back negative.

The staff were really on the ball and they are going to chase lab and contact me next couple of days to advise of result but are really open about me contacting if I have any concerns.

Will let you know how it all goes......xx

My health is most important Alice of course, but I must admit once it was all sorted, I was VERY relieved as the thought of having to cancel my MUCH NEEDED holiday was not nice he he!!!

Well of corse... Atleast you should be showing off your lovely twins soon enough! And hopefully this will rectify some of the swelling in stubborn boob too!

Yep, sounds like serous fluid. I had this in my tummy a couple of weeks after my mini tt, my PS syringed it out. The fluid looked and moved like a waterbed on my tummy, lol. Glad you're alright xxx

Had to go back today to get re-dressed as still weepy :-( Unfortunately no consultants in so Ive to go back to my PS tomorrow......Im doing my best to take it easy.....

Bit of negative thinking today tbh, telling myself what a fool I am to do something like this with a 14 month on my own :-( Im almost certain Im being judged by a couple of people in my life (trying to keep it as hush hush as poss but a couple of so called friends are giving me vibes which lets just say arent v supportive).

And on top of that, Im like how idiotic am I to have thought I could go on hols so soon after??? Nurse said today I should be fine but I guess Im just run down after toots being off nursery with all the bank hols this past week.........she's back in tomorrow and hopefully her daddy is taking her at weekend? who knows but if I do get a break from my angel next few days Im cancelling all my running about and putting my feet up!!!

It really doesn't surprise me that you've hit a low lovely, especially after all you're going through

Try to remain positive though and KNOW that it's not always going to be this way.

You're not at all a fool, plenty of single mothers have a BA, so you're absolutely not alone, you've just had a little hic-cup that's set you back a little, but if you weren't strong willed, you wouldn't have opted for this surgery in the first instance, now you're here, you ARE going to get through this and do all the things you said you'd do, because you are strong woman

As for people judging you.... let them! It matters not what anyone else things of your life and how you choose to live it Katy. You're going through a case of the 'post-op blues' right now and sooooooo many of us can relate to how you're feeling and we can ALL tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel Katy, so just hang on in there, hopefully, you'll get that break over the weekend and be able to rejuvenate whilst you sit back and relax. You're going to feel so much better very soon Katy. xxxx

It sounds like you are being taken good care of and the holiday sounds like it is much needed, so try to relax hun and rest, as cookie says, it's your life and who cares what anyone else thinks. We only get one, so live it and be happy.

Just to give you a wee update on whats been happening!

Went back to see my PS today. Nurse had taken absorent dressing off and there was hardly any exudate (which had been on for 24 hours).....so that was good...initial swab result is negative (will get final one tomorrow), so thats another positive.

Mr Morley thinks its either been a haematoma, although due fluid not dark more probably been fat necrosis, which is more common in breast reductions apparently, but he is not concerned and says i should not cancel my holiday!!!!

Journey been very up and down so far so taking it one day at a time, but all in all Im happy with this and just got to keep it dressed and keep a wee eye on it.....

Thanks for all your support, think I was a bit run down and like cookie said post-op blues kicking in. Thankfully, my head is no longer doing a number on me and Im back to feeling like Ive done the right thing!!

Well I'm really pleased to hear you're results have come back clear and you're showing signs of improvement! Like Misf said, it really sounds like you need that holiday Katy!

Having a young child to look after, a BA and these complications with it must have all weighed heavy on your shoulders... I think any of us would have felt the pressure from this

Onwards and upwards as they say... You may get your down days but it WILL get better in time, you have to remember you're only human and you need to let your body heal to feel well on the outside and inside too X

Thats really good news Katy about both your test result and your surgeon being positive about you not cancelling your holiday.

You're right to take you're healing a day at a time babe, never compare to anybody and never put pressure on yourself sweetheart and you'll do great
