Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Well as you know, last week I had a mammogram and ultra sound scan because one breast is suddenly bigger and firmer than the other. It was found that there is more fluid than there should be around my left boob. They also took blood.
Well the PS said that the blood test showed no infection. The mammogram didn't show an implant rupture. He said that at almost 2 years post op my problem is extremely rare!! He doesn't really know what has caused it or what to do next. He said I could have a sample of the fluid taken but this could cause an infection or it could pierce the implant!! He added that the fluid sample may come back clear anyway!
My other option is to have an operation where they remove the implant and see what's going on and maybe leave me without an implant for a few months while things settle down or put one straight back in with a dose of anti biotics!
The other option is to do nothing and wait a month or two and see if e fluid goes on its own!
This wasn't my original PS but an NHS one who deals with a lot of reconstruction patients after cancer. He was very nice and he did say he will see me at any time should the breast change! I do have a dull ache with it now.
I really don't know what to do now, I guess I'll have to wait a while and see what happens! Hubby doesn't really seem to want to discuss it.....I know he's worried about the money ( if I needed a re-op) I think he's just hoping it will all go away!
My friend suggested I should get a second opinion.......I just don't know, any opinions appreciated xxx

It sounds like you've met a good surgeon - it's always handy if they have reconstructive surgery under their belt. Maybe get a second opinion just to see if somebody else has come across it before. It may also be worth posting to Mr Alvi in his forum to see what he may suggest.
Your hubby is probably just concerned right now and doesn't know what to say - were all here though :) x

Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Is the size difference massive??
I would get a second opinion just to double check. If I'm honest, depending on how noticeable to size difference was I'd be tempted to see if it sorts its self out! You know its nothing that is going to risk your health, which is the most important thing. Sometimes things happen medically with no explanation and can sort themselves out again just as quickly.

Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Thank you Alice, yes he was very nice and even though it was late in the day and he was running behind and I was his last patient I didn't feel at all rushed. He was very thorough with his examination and talking me through the different options. It's just frustrating not to have a definite diagnosis.....trust me to be different!

Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Jayne.....hubby says no-one else would notice but of course I do!! It now spills over the top of my bra and I have to keep adjusting myself!! It is very round now, more like it was when I first had them done! I actually prefer the shape!! I guess my problem is that I just like definite answers to things but maybe I have to accept that I just have to give it some time and see what happens!
Maybe I will ask ask the surgeon here or I might email my PS and see what her opinion is......thanks for your reply xx

Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Hi ladies,
My PS said the same as the first one. She said it would be best to leave it for now to see if it settles down. She will see me again in a month and we will review things then.
. I did ask if she had any idea what could have caused it, she said I could have pulled a muscle in my chest which made me ask about lifting weights as I do a body pump class with weights 2/3 times a week. She has advised me to not lift too heavy on the chest tracks so we'll see if that makes a difference!
Thank you for your concern, I will let you know how things go xx

Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Good to hear its nothing serious, hopefully changing the weights you do will make a difference
Re: Saw PS today re Fluid On Breast
Hope it settles soon on it's own and you don't have to have anything done to sort the problem. It sounds like you are in good hands with both ps's that you have seen. Good luck hun xx

Good that both PS's have said the same, that must help reassure you that it will sort itself out.
Hope your feeling a little better about everything
You'll have to keep us posted. xx
