Sleeping propped up Empty Sleeping propped up

Post by *Alice* 30th April 2012, 11:14 pm

How high up am I meant to be sleeping? In the hospital they put my bed almost up right... Since getting back I've had two medium pillows and a v pillow, so at an angle.

Would just one pillow to raise my shoulders slightly and then the v pillow for my neck/stop me rolling on my side be ok?

Sleeping propped up Empty Re: Sleeping propped up

Post by COOKIE 1st May 2012, 12:33 am

yes babe, just one pillow and a V-Pilow is fine, as long as you keep your head raised higher than your chest that's all that's needed.

To help your back try another pillow under your knees and maybe one each under each arm too to add additional support for you. A hot water bottle placed in the small of your back will help too along with ensuring you keep up with your pain meds.

If you find you're struggling with morning boob you'll find ice packs invaluable! If you don't have ice packs then a bag of frozen peas/rice/corn will do, just place over the tops of each breast for a while before getting up and it helps ease the discomfort sooooooo much... along with my V-Pillow my ice-packs were my BA best friends! I doubt I'd have gotten through my BA without them.

Hope that helps lovely. xx

Sleeping propped up Empty Re: Sleeping propped up

Post by *Alice* 1st May 2012, 8:11 am

Cookie after reading this I moved one of the pillows to under my knees (so just had one pillow and v pillow) and popped an ice pack on my chest and hey presto! Slept like a baby for the first time!

I woke up at 5ish and replaced my ice pack (I've been using them a lot at home I hope that isn't bad?) but I didn't have an issue with morning boob this morning :)

Why are we meant to sleep propped up? And when are we allowed to sleep however we want? I'm usually a side sleeper, though I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that yet. X

As long as you wake up feeling ok then it shouldnt be a problem...... I had to have quite a few pillows & be up quite high as if not id wake up with really swollen painfull boobs in the morning and sleeping sat up on lots of pillows was the only way to stop this.

I woke up 2 times not on any pillows after a ruff night and OMG my boobs were soooo swollen & painfull I could hardly move....this took a few weeks to settle then I was fine

Post by jadeBA 1st May 2012, 12:21 pm

Hey hun,
Well night 2 of sleeping home upright and my god its a PAIN IN THE BUM. i did half of the night on the sofa and the other half in bed i defiently will be trying the pillow under the knees i hope it helps for me too.

well i wouldnt reccomend sleeping like i have, i hav 2 pillows laid flat ontop of each other, 2 pillows each side to make mr kinda 'boxed in'
and then my V pillow ontop of all that,
dont get me wrong it looks comfy lol but sleeping is another matter.

i sometimes get worried that im laid too flat although my head is defiently above my chest.
argh im going to tacklle getting in the bath later alone that should be fun.

swelling in the middle of my chest hasnt budged either.
rararrrr..

congrats on your new addict title alice xxxxx

I made a slope of pillows so that I also had one under my lower back to support it and then the v pillow on top.
I remember crying wondering if I would ever be able to sleep properly again.

It will get better girls, just remember why you are doing this!

Haha Alexis the bath was definitely a challenge, but now I know I can get up into a squat without my arms so I guess thunder thighs pay off! Managed to wash and dry my own hair today (balancing the hair dryer between my legs) so doing quite well.

My mum still can't make a good cup of tea though! X

Don't do it! I waited until I could shower on day 9 (when my dressings came off and I was given the all clear). Prior to that I kept my hair in plaits. I was told not to lift my arms above my head for the first week and tbh I don't think I could have anyway, I was too sore.

I had a bath, just up to my belly button so I didn't get the dressings wet then got out, dry, dressed. Then with the water left in the bath just lent over and used a jug to pour water on my head!x

Yep I was in the shower day 2 post op. Had waterproof dressings so it was fine and had spares (I'm a nurse so it's easy) and I was able to use my arms fully so my recovery was fine really. My rhinoplasty and cold.... Different story... Lol xx

I'm a bit achey but nothing extreme! I can't relax though, think there's just been such a build up of excitement! Keep wanting to go out but then can't be bothered to get dressed and ready!

How are you? X

Post by jadeBA 2nd May 2012, 8:29 am

im brilliant thanks hun,
i know i secretly miss the excitement of counting down the days hehee.
but OBV i look down and realises THEY ARE HERE. much much better

but yeah same really just a really achey back at the bottom in the middle.
as far as the boobies.
im not really feeling any pain at all. and i can still move my arms ect fine with no probs.
even had a sneeky drive and it was honestly fine just put the chair up high so i was holding the steering wheel mainly from the bottom
so i THINK considering the pillow under the knees works well tonight im goin to go to work on friday.
