Re: really stressed
Hiya Hun
I know its really hard to pack in i did about 5 weeks before my op as i was scared of things going wrong ive since started again which was silly but i havnt had any problems so far (fingers crossed!)
I used the chewing gum which was a big help and stopped it about 4 days before my op.

Re: really stressed
I did try being hypnotisted once, it did work for a couple of weeks, the effects wore off as I only had 1 session, that might be a good thing to try for a short term thing for any other pre-op girls to try. Only 1 more day mxbabe, be strong, mind over matter :) I've heard that if you really want one, wait 10 minutes and if you still want one in 10 minutes you can have one, but aparently by the time 10 minutes is up, the craving has gone. Not that you should have one after 10 minutes!!

Re: really stressed
In my instructions they said no smoking 6hours before, but better would be to stop completely.
I've been bad, smoked the last one about 5 hours before the op, and the first one 4 hours after..........

Re: really stressed
Sorry if this is scary but it's pretty pointless stopping 6 hours before an op as the body takes 24 hours to rid of the carbon monoxide!! The whole point of stopping smoking for an op is to decrease the levels of carbon monoxide which will increase the oxygen levels.
With regards to the lungs, even just 1 cigarette's smoke in a 24 hour period will lie at the bottom of your lungs, reducing their effectiveness, not good if you're just about to have a GA.
Anyone out there trying to stop, try the Paul McKenna book stopping smoking? I've heard some good reports about it. It comes with a CD which you can put on your mp3 player. When your cravings are at their worse you can lie down, relax and listen to it talk you through them.
Lastly, use NRT in the correct way, read the instructions. If you inhale the inhilator the nicotine will not be absorbed through the lungs so will be wasted, it has to be absorbed through the mouth so puff it like a pipe into your cheek.. Also, remember it takes about 20 mins for the nicotine in NRT to reach the brain so you will not get an instant hit with any product other than the nasal spray. Plan in advance, take a microtab before a meal etc...
Good luck, I know it's hard, but it's worth it !!!
