Yes I've heard one of the girls say that it's possible for the surgeon to postpone the op Becouse of the nails ! I would take them off for your safety xxx

Re: Acrylic Nails.
I would ring and speak with your PS nurse to be sure, some places let you keep them on as long as you dont have it on your toenails as well and also no nail polish on the toes as it can affect the readings. When I worked in a surgical day proceedure unit we'd have ladies coming in for short ops like getting their gallbladders out and they'd have acrylics on and we'd just use their toes.. All down to surgeon preference really..xx

Re: Acrylic Nails.
omg I didn't even think of this! I have acrylics on all the time :( will have to remember to keep them off after this set!
is there anything else similar to this that you shouldn't have during surgery? I'm thinking of all sorts now haha contact lenses, make-up?

Re: Acrylic Nails.
I was told no make up. And they kept asking if i had contact lenses in - i guess they don't want to put you under while they're in? Cos you aren't meant to sleep in them, are you?

Re: Acrylic Nails.
oh and any piercings? Ive got like 15 or something I'll have to take those out too haha
I'll ask these random things at my pre-op hopefully they will know!
With my contacts my optician said they're fine to sleep in but I never do cause it feels like theyve shrivelled up and become attached to my eyeballs lol, I guess I'll take those out too

Re: Acrylic Nails.
lol, they told me to take out piercings (100% tongue one) but if I couldn't undo any of them I would have had to sign a disclaimer and they stick a plaster over them

Re: Acrylic Nails.
I also had various piercings and they all had to come out - they let me keep my belly bar in (which I changed to PTFE) as it was too new to take out but I had to sign a disclaimer.
My surgeon told me any piercings in or around the mouth must be removed completely, others could stay if they really had to as long as they weren't metal.
That said each surgeon/hospital has different rules.
My diary (link in signature) has lots of the questions I asked at my consult and the answers I got but as I say each surgeon is different.

Re: Acrylic Nails.
I don't miss them anymore - turns out my OH didn't like them, he is a lot more hands on so to speak since they went and my newbies healed lol!
Sorry I can't help on the acrylics - I would assume they have to come off but if they are clear on the nail bed so they can see your blood flow then maybe they will be ok - that said all surgeons and hospitals are different so definitely check

Re: Acrylic Nails.
I dont mind having to make these little sacrifices cause I know in the scheme of things the BA is what I want :) I do hope I can get my piercings all back in though!
My surgeon told me the incision will be right on my tattoo though which I have on my ribs just below my right boob :( quite gutted about that cause it's gonna have a scar right through it and I don't know if I could get it lasered off once the scar is healed or what?! plus it's pretty meaningful. My own stupid fault for getting it there!! boo hoo! Sorry this is kind of off-topic from nails! x

Re: Acrylic Nails.
Sorry to keep this slightly off topic and sorry to hear re your tattoo Laura - you may also find that the tattoo moves anyway when your boobs settle - on a separate thread I was talking to Alexisbell about how I lost 1.5 inches of blub from my underbust as a result of my op - the only explanation is that the weight of my boobs has pulled the skin on my torso tighter - no complaints from me but may affect your tattoo.
All my other piercings that I wanted jewellery back in were fine, it was just my nipples that closed but I have had many problems with them over the years, I just accept now that they weren't meant to be anymore.

Re: Acrylic Nails.
Firstly - hello alexisbell-murphy ... havent said hi to you yet!
It really must depend on your ps. I was told I could keep the nails on but they were looking a little tatty anyway so I decided Id have a fresh start after the op as a bit of a treat.
Also the piercings - I told my nurse that my ear-rings were really hard to take out cos they are screw in ones so she said fine and taped them up !?
I had make up on too .... only a little bit though I neeeed my mascara like a baby needs a dummy
and I was able to wear my own drawers - the anesthatist whispered this to me about half hour before I was due to go in the first time. The second time I had to be bare-assed
only thing I was asked to take off that I thought !!?? about was my hair band cos it had a metal bit on it ... thought it a bit bonkers cos Id been allowed the earings and rings etc that a hair band would be a problem.
