Do I have to remove my acrylic nails?
Just got all my info through from HMG and it says that all acrylic nails must be removed prior to surgery. Why is this? Just rang my nail woman and she spoke to her friend who is an anethatist (spelling?) and he said this isn't necessary??
Any post-op ladies out there who go to keep theirs on or had to take theirs off?
I feel lost without them, i've had them on for 7 years, don't think i've any real nails left underneath them!
Thanks in advance for any info on this x

They keep an eye on your nails during the operation. Your nails supposidly gives signs if anything is wrong.
It's the same with nail varnish, it must all be removed before surgery

They use your fingertips to check your blood oxygen levels, they did it every few hours along with my blood pressure x

Brilliant, thank you for that! Just made the appointment to have then taken off the day before my op. It's made me sad! But I can have them put back on when i'm feeling up to it, and having the operation is more important than my nails!!
Thanks again x

Its cos they look at your nails during your op so they'll have teo be removed.. you can have them done again after your op tho x

I was allowed to keep mine on, although I have clear gel sculptures so not sure if that makes a difference. I took the coloured varnish off of my toes though! If they've specifically said they have to come off it's probably best to do it so you don't have any problems on the day x

I took mine off and had them re-done the following week. Same with my toes. Good to give your nails a rest now and again anyway (although I hated not having them on!)

Re: Do I have to remove my acrylic nails?
I've had UV gel nails for about 7 years now and had them removed the night before my op (for the reasons the other girlies have said) and had them put back on the next day... felt lost without them!
